AKRON, O., Feb. 13. - In a crumbling pottery in Kenmore, Louis Wingerter, one of the pioneer potters of this city, died last night at an old age. Mr. Wingerter came here from Alsace-Lorraine in 1842, when twenty-one years old, and for two years acted as foreman of the old Wilcox pottery at lock 1 on the Ohio canal, now the central portion of this city. Then he purchased a farm where Kenmore is now located between Akron and Barberton, and built a plant of his own. This was destroyed in 1875 by fire. He rebuilt it and conducted the business there until fifteen years ago, when he retired, but continued to reside at the pottery. [Plain Dealer (14 Feb. 1906) - MZ - Sub by FoFG]
