Marie Wallace, 57, of Cleveland, a former resident of Middle St., died Thursday in Metropolitan General Hospital following a two-day illness. Born Aug. 20, 1915, in Van Wert, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Mullen. Survivors include a sister, Velma Mullen of Middle St., and two brothers, John Mullen of Defiance and Art Mullen of Ft. Wayne. The body will be removed to the Klaehn Funeral Home, W. Wayne St., Fort Wayne today, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Tom Steinsman. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.

Van H. Johnson, 57, of 309 N. Race St. died at his residence. He had been in failing health for two years, but death was unexpected. The Van Wert Fire Department's Emergency Unit was called to the home and administered closed heart massage and oxygen. born Dec. 18, 1913, in High Point, N. C., Mr. Johnson was the son of Huston and Rose (Jones) Johnson. Survivors include his widow, Dolores (Poole) Johnson; a son, Gary of Tiffin; five step-children,  Mrs. Dennis (Virginia) Chamberlain, Miss Alice Kae Brothers and James Brothers, all of Mansfield and William Brothers, at home; two brothers, Fred and Bobbie Johnson of Tiffin; two sisters, Mrs. Ed (Naomi) Stachovick of Marshfield, Wis., and Mrs. Pearl Hornday of Mount Airy, N. C. Mr. Johnson was a chef at Colonial Restaurant until his illness. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Alspach Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Sherwood officiating. Burial in Woodland Cemetery.

Donald Rial Miller, 70, of here was found dead Saturday at his residence. He was born Mar. 18, 1916, in Scott, the son of Thomas L. and Elizabeth (Schmidt) Miller. Mr. Miller was a retired carpenter and was a member of the carpenters union of Lima. He was a World War II U.S. Navy Veteran. Survivors include one brother, T. Paul Miller of Van Wert, five sisters, Allegra Miller of Venedocia, Ruby Roth of Defiance, Marian Weber of Attica, Mrs. Louis (Edith) Brown of Jacksonville, N.C. and Mrs. Doyle (Donna) Duncan of Van Wert. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Alspach Funeral Home, Rev. Thomas Hanover officiating. Burial in Woodland Cemetery.

Anne M. Miller, 92, died at 8:45 p.m. at Vancrest  Nursing Home in Van Wert. She was born Oct 8, 1900, in St. Louis, mo., to Clemans and Marie (Wittig) Hausnecht. On Aug. 10, 1930, she married Clifford A. Miller, who died in 1967. Mrs. Miller was a retired elementary school teacher and taught ballet dancing at the YWCA. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Van Wert, The Presbyterian Women's Circle, and the American Association of University Women. Survivors include a son James C. Miller of Van Wert; a daughter, Mrs. Rikhard (Ginny M.) Laiho of Findlay; and four grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two brothers. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Alspach-gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, Rev. Edward Jillson will officiate. Burial in Woodland Cemetery.

Evelyn G. Marshall, 90, died at 1 a.m.Sept. 2, 2005, at Lincolnway Nursing Home, Middle Point. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert. Pastor Rob Ratliff will officiate. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery.

Pearl W. Doner, 77, 515 S. Wayne St. a former resident of Grover Hill, died at 5:15 a.m. Tuesday in van Wert Manor nursing Home following an illness of several years. Mrs. Doner was born Dec. 14, 1895 in Van Wert, a daughter of George B and Cassie (Glossett) Wise. She married David A. Doner, who died Mar. 21, 1968.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Durbin (Betty) McCollum of 515 S. Wayne St; two foster sons, James Dotson of Rt. 1, Middle Point and Byron Snavely of Rt. 1, Grover Hill; a stepbrother, Walter R. Stapleton of West Palm beach, Fla; a grand-daughter; five foster grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Brickner Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul W. Miller officiating. Burial in Middle Creek Cemetery.

Jan. 2, 1930

John Sponsellor, highly esteemed resident of Tully township, died Wednesday morning, at a hospital in Fort Wayne, following an illness of several years. Mr. Sponsellor was aged 70 years and resided in this county his entire lifetime. Among his direct survivors are one son, Forest, of Tully township, and three daughters, Miss Flora Sponsellor, at home, Mrs. Edward Beatty, of Tully township, and Mrs. Paul Mollenkopf, of Oklahoma. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

Jan. 3, 1930

Mrs. Daniel Lintemoot, well known resident of Van Wert county died Thursday night at her home in Dull, after an illness of about one year. Mrs. Lintemoot was aged about 70 years and was a native of Liberty township where she resided her entire lifetime. Her direct survivors are her husband, a daughter, Mrs. James Clouse, of Van Wert, and four sons, Earl of Van Wert, Lemuel, of Ohio City, Della of Celina, and Fred of Michigan. Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed.

 

Henry Cashmer, many years an esteemed resident of Union township, died Thursday evening at the house of his daughter, Mrs. Carey Meyers, of Prospect avenue, following an illness of several months. Mr. Cashmer was aged 82 years and was a native of Auglaize county. His direct survivor is Mrs. Carey Myers. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the home on Prospect avenue. Interment at Woodland cemetery.

 

The funeral of  John Sponseller, of Tully township will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Metzer Methodist Church, west of Convoy. Burial at the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Tully township.

Jan. 6, 1930

William B. Shepherd, father of Mrs. C. L. Ireland, of North Jefferson street, died Sunday night at the Van Wert County Hospital, where he was a patient following the fracture of his hip, the result of a fall last week at the Ireland home last week. Mr. Shepherd had he lived until today would have been the age of 90 years. He had spent his entire life at Springfield, Illinois, making his home in this town with his daughter but only a few months. His direct survivor is Mrs. Ireland. The remains will be taken to Springfield, Tuesday, where the funeral and interment will be held. No service will be held here other than a prayer by Rev. C. Marshall Muir just before leaving the home for the train.

Anna E. Klingler, 61, of Paulding was pronounced dead on arrival at Paulding County Hospital at 8:45 p.m. Saturday. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.
Born Jan. 4, 1913, in Paulding, she was the daughter of John and Mary (Hutchins) Chester. Her husband Alva, survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Shirley Reece, Mrs. Louisa Sinn and Mrs. Beverly Oskey, all of Paulding, and Mrs. Sharon Patterson of Oklahoma City, Okla., a son, Burl of Paulding; a sister, Mildred Rowley of Hudson, Mich., two brothers, Carl, of Paulding and Harry of Payne; 12 grandchildren and a great grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Crowell-DenHerder Funeral Home, Paulding, with the Rev. John Huchies officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery.

Mrs. Ilene Klingler, 85, of Paulding was found dead at her home Tuesday. Death was attriibuted to an apparent heart attack on Monday.
A native of Paulding County, she was born April 4, 1887, daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth (Zinsmaster) Morrow. She was a member of the Paulding Church of the Nazarene.

Ervin (Shorty) Stewart, 86, a retired  Washington Township farmer, died Tuesday at 5:35 p.m. in the Castle Convalescent Home on South Washington Street. He had been in failing health for three years, and for the past three months, serious.

He was a native of Van Wert County, a son of Joseph and Hettie Stewart. His only survivor is a brother, Perry of Wetsel. The deceased was a member of Van Wert IOOF lodge. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Harter and Son Funeral Home in Delphos. Burial in King's cemetery.

VAN WERT, Aug. 1—Funeral services were held this afternoon at the Gamble & Alspaeh funeral home here for Glenn Fannon, of  Mishawaka ,  Ind. Burial was in  Woodland cemetery. Fannon, a former resident of Van Wert, died Tuesday night at   Mishawaka  after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his widow and two daughters.

VAN WERT. Aug. 2—Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Henry Courtney, 88, who died Wednesday night at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Ancil Fawcett in this city. Burial was in Harrison Baptist cemetery in Harrison-tp. A native of Trumbull-co, he had lived in Van Wert-co since-a boy  He is survived by three daughters. Mrs. Fawcett and Mrs. George Baker of Van Wert and Mrs. David Brunni of   Huntington ,  Ind.; and three sons. Louis of Van Wert, Albert of  Hillsdale ,  Mich. , and James of   Rockford.

VAN WERT - Charles Goings, Jr., 56. cued al 8:45 am. Tuesday it St Rita's   Medical  Center  , following an extended illness. He was born March 12. 1927, In   Paulding  County  , the son ol Charles C. and Icy M. Dorrnan Goings. On March SI, 1W2. he married Louise V. Ashbaugh. who survives. Mr. Goings was a die crib attendant for National Steel in Van Wert for 21 years He was a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars post.  He served In the US. Army in
Panama  from March 1961 to March 1963. Survivors also include a brother, James Goings of Oakwood; and two step-sisters,  Mrs. Enoch (Claris) Saylor of Oakwood and Mrs. Norman  (Barbara)  Tristh of Hicksville. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Alspach Funeral Home.

MENDON - Edna Leasor Seibert, 68. died at 7:35 a.m. Wednesday at Coldwater Community Hospital. She was born June 3,1916. in Van Wert County, the daughter of John and Leona Macklin Leasor. On June 1, 1935 she married Harley Seibert. who survives. Survivors also include a son, Larry Seibert of Mendon; a daughter, Mrs. Tom (Candice) Krick of Celina; six grandchildren; a great- grandchild; a brother, Carl Leasor of  Rockford ; and a sister, Velma Purdy of   Lima. Mrs. Seibert was the retired tax administrator for the City of Celina. She was a member of the   First  Church  of God. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at W. H. Dick and Sons Funeral Home. Celina, Rev. Conard Chambers officiating. Burial will be in  Wright  Cemetery  . Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mercer County Cancer Society.

Rosita F. Germann. 32. of Romulus.  Mich. , died at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at   University of  Michigan  Hospital.   Ann Arbor  , following a brief illness. She was born March 19,1964. in  Manila ,  Philippines , the daughter of Dorminador and Susanna (Tarimabao) Ferndez, who survive in   Manila  . On Nov. 26, 1972, she married Philip Germann. who
survives. Mrs. Germann was a dietary aide at Van Buren Convalescent Home,  Belleville ,  Mich , and a member of   St. Thomas  Lutheran  Church  . Van Wert County. Survivors also include one son, Philip Ferndez Germann, at home; three brothers; and four sisters. Services will be at 1 p m Saturday at   St. Thomas  Lutheran  Church  . Rev. Gary Luderman officiating. Burial will be in   Protestant-Evangelical  Cemetery  . Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight and 9 to 11 am Saturday at Alspach Funeral Home, Van Wert and one hour prior to service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the church or the American Cancer Society.

Perrin DePuy, an old and respected citizen of Van Wert, an attorney and extensive landholder, died suddenly at that place on Friday morning, the 9th inst., of apoplexy.

Richard Eugene Alger, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clark Alger, died at Van Wert-co hospital following an appendectomy.
Funeral services were to be Wednesday afternoon at Ohio City Church of God and burial was to be in Ohio City Woodlawn cemetery.
The young man was discharged last February after four years service in the Navy. Besides his parents he is survived by three brothers and a sister, Melba, Melvin, Basil and William all of Ohio City.

Mrs. Sarah White,   67, is dead at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. Wagner, of Ft. Wayne, Ind., where she was visiting for the past six weeks. Death was due to apoplexy. She leaves her husband, four daughters and one son, all of them live in this vicinity.

She was born June 21, 1889, in Liberty township, Van Wert count the daughter of James S. and Kathleen (Hert) Custer. She married Benjamin Lee, who is deceased.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Brickner Funeral Home, Rev. Howard McCracken officiating. Burial will be in Blue Creek Cemetery, Paulding County.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday. Memorial contributions may be be made to the Van Wert Fire Department.

Mrs. Maggie Fisher, 69, widow of Thomas J. Fisher, died of a cerebral hemorrhage Friday at her home here. She was born in Clinton county, May 21, 1876, the daughter of Fred and Rebecca Clay.
She is survived by a son Harold, Van Wert; three brothers, Lester Clay, Ft. Wayne, Ind., Frank, Battle Creek, Mich., and Orley, Lake Orion, Mich., and a sister, Miss Daisy Clay of Van Wert.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Cowan and Son funeral home, with burial in Woodland cemetery.

VAN WERT. Jan. 5—A brain concussion suffered a week ago in a fall on an icy sidewalk was fatal to J. J. Alspach who died Thursday at Van Wert-co hospital. He  was the city's oldest resident and would have been 94, Feb. 22. Until the time of his injury Alspach was very active and took long walks daily. He attributed his long life and good physical condition to the fact that he ate an average of 22 slices of bread at each meal. He was a native of Perry-co, O., and resided on a farm in Union-tp before retiring in 1908. Surviving are two sons, William O. of Van Wert and Homer of   Bay City ,  Mich.  , and a brother, Allen, 90, of Thornville. 0. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. at St. Mark's Lutheran church with Dr. E. e. Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.

CONVOY, April 3—Mrs. Josephine Klein, widow of Frederick Klein, died Thursday at her home in Convoy. A native of Harrison- tp, Mrs. Klein had lived most of her lifetime in Convoy district. Surviving arc two daughters, Mrs. Lena Klein Larson at home and Mrs. Russell Mollenkopf of Fort Wayne: a son Walter of Convoy; one sister, Mrs. C. M. Smith of Convoy; and two brothers, William and E. J. Kreischcr of Convoy. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p. m. at   St. Paul  's Evangelical Reformed church in Convoy. Interment will be in   St. John's  cemetery, Harrison-tp.

He was born Oct. 12. 1920, a son of Charles F. W. and Oval N. (Dull) Hoverman.
Survivors include his widow, the former Helen Ward; two sons, Michael 0. of 124 E. Third St. and Dick of 1128 Pratt St.; three daughters. Mrs. Terry (Mary Lou) Johns of 830 Prospect Ave.,   Mrs.   Ronald (Barbara) Siewertsen of 421 E. Crawford St. and Terri, at home; three brothers. Carl of Glenmore. Clifford of Decatur, Ind., and Howard of 615 Cable St.; five
sisters, Mrs. Cleo  (Elva) Lautzenheiser, Mrs. Dale (Marjorie) Oechsle and  Mrs   Kay (Marilyn) Miller,  all  of Wren,  Mrs. Eldon (Kathryn) Lautzenheiser of Cehna and Mrs. Forest (Aileen) Hileman of Rt. 1, Rockford and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother. Donald.
Mr. Hoverman was an employe of the Continental Can Co. and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church. *Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Cowan Funeral Home.

Home, Toledo, where she had been residing for several months.
Survivors include a niece, Barbara Harris, and a brother-in-law, Doyt Harris, both of W. First St.
Her husband. John, and a daughter, Martha,  preceded her in death.
Funerar services will be conducted in Toledo and graveside services will be in Woodland Cemetery. * Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

Mrs. Harris, a former resident of Van Wert, died Monday night in the Lutheran Rest Home, Toledo, where she had been residing for several months. Graveside services  will be conducted between 12:30 and 1 p. m. Thursday in Woodland
Cemetery.

SPENCERVILLE - Mrs. Virginia Lauth, 72, of Rt. 1, was found dead in her home at 5:50 p.m. Friday following an apparent heart attack.  Born May 18, 1903. in Florida, she was the daughter of W. W. and Lee Bower Golden She married Ray Huffer and he died. She then married Walter H. Lauth in 1960 and be survives. Survivors also include six step- daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Leona) McPheron of Rt. 3. Mrs. Karl (Doris) Tinnerman, Mrs. Michael (Anna) Axe and Emma Gean Lauth, all of St. Marys. Mrs. Richard (Betty) McClintock of Wapakoneta and Mrs. Rodney (Gean Ann) Painter of Rt. 4, Cridersville; five step-sons, Robert Jr. of Ottawa, Harold and Ronald, both of New Knoxville, William of St. Marys and James of Rt. 3. Wapakoneta; 32 step- grandchildren and 15 step-great grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home here. Rev. Oliver Haynes officiating.
Burial will be in New Salem Cemetery south of Montecello. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m
today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

SPENCERVILLE - Stanley C. Guthrie, 48, formerly of here, died at 1 a.m. Sunday in his
Toledo home.
Born Jan. i5, 1925, in Lima, he was the son of Herman C. and Mary A. Kennedy Guthrie. Survivors include his mother of here and a daughter, Linda. He was a veteran of the U.S.
Navy and had been a commercial painter.  Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Thomas E. Bayliff Funeral Home, Rev. John T. Miller officiating.
Burial will be in the New Salem Cemetery near Monticello. Friends may call after 6 p.m.
Tuesday at the funeral home.

CONVOY, Nov. 2 — J. S. Gorrell died early Saturday morning: at his home after a brief illness.
He was a native of Muskingum-co and he had lived in Van Wert-co for 57 years. He is survived bv three children, Miss Alta Gorrell and Walter F. Gorrell of Convoy, and Mrs. Alma Feicht of Nampa, Idaho; two brothers, W. T. Gorrell of Denver, Colo., and Fred C. of Coldwater, and four sisters, Mrs. Effie Blackburn of McConnellsville; Mrs. Ella Stokes of Pueblo, Colo.; Mrs. Fanny Haines of Reinersville. and Mrs. Alta Knight of Springfield. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.

VAN WERT, Nov. 2 — The body of Mrs. L. A. Gunn of this city, who died Thursday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. W. R. Corathers, at St. Petersburg, Fla., will arrive in Van Wert Sunday evening and will be removed to the Gamble & Alspach funeral home. Funeral services will be held Monday at 0:30 a. m. at St. Marys Catholic church. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery.

VAN WERT - Grayce B. Profit, 88, of here, died at 7:45 am. Friday at Shane Hill Nursing Home in Rockford.

She was born Sept. 25, 1892, in Liberty Township, Van Wert County, the daughter of Charles E. and
Elizabeth (Miller) Overholt. In 1913 she married Perry G. Profit, who died in 1964.

Mrs. Profit was a member of Calvary Evangelical Church in Van Wert. She was also a member of the
Liberty Grange, the Van Wert Senior Citzens, and the Ladies Hospital Board of Van Wert County Hospital .

Survivors include one son, of Ohio City ; one daughter, of Van Wert;, two brothers. Ira Overholt of Van Wert and C. E. Overholt of Venedocia: one sister, Mrs. Edna Paxson of Elida; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at Pnwnn and Son Funeral Home. Van Wert. Howard W. McCracken and
Rev. Marc Graham officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Ohio City. Friends may call at the funeral home until time of service today. Memorial contributions may be made to to Calvary Evangelical Church.
