 Crime News

The Eugene City Guard (Eugene, OR) Saturday, December 9, 1882

Intelligence from Fort Smith give the particulars of the capture in the Indian Territory a female desperado named Belle Starr. She was wanted for horse stealing, and he husband was captured after a long chase and sharp fight. Mrs. Starr is perhaps the most noted character of the western border. It is claimed that she was a member of the Younger gang of outlaws and was present when Shepard claimed to have shot and killed Jesse James near Short creek, Mo. She has several aliases, and many deeds of violence are charge to her. She has been admitted to bail in the sum of $3,000.
