Garfield County was originally designated as county "O", a part of the
Cherokee Outlet, by Congress, but the name was changed to Garfield in honor of President James A. Garfield.
It has an area of 1,080 square miles, approximately 5,000 acres forest land and 644,549 acres farm land.
