Before Peter and Augusta lived in Kingfisher they lived in Savanna, Indian Territory

Augusta Amelia, the Jorns' fourth child was living with her mother in 1880, but by 1885 had moved in with her sister Emma and her husband Tom Burtis. The Burtis lived at Savanna, which is presently in Pittsburg county, OK. Augusta, who was well educated and a religious woman, fell in love and married a man who was not particularly well educated, but had a quest for knowledge. Peter Ray McInnes was a miner who had traveled the West before he settled down in the Indian Territory.  Peter and Augusta were married 3 March 1886, Savannah, Indian Territory.

Peter and Augusta were married at Savanna on 3 March 1886. Within a short time Peter began studying law in the evenings, with the help of his wife, who was a teacher. The family moved between southeastern Oklahoma, Jenny Lind, Arkansas and Okarche, OK Territory several times during the late 1800's. This was demonstrated by the birth places of their children. Charles was born in Savanna, Archibald in Lehigh, Indian Territory, Ernest Ray in Jenny Lind, Arkansas, Jeannette Amelia in Okarche, Indian territory, Thomas Carroll in Jenny Lind, Arkansas and William Arthur in Okarche - all between 1887 and 1899.

When the McInnes finally settled on a farm near Okarche about 1899. They were living down the road from Tom and Emma Burtis, in Kingfisher County. Their first Okarche farm home was made of sod with dirt floors. Soon the family moved into a two-room frame house which was built by Peter. By our standards today it would not be much, but to these hard working pioneers it was a high moment of success.

The nineteenth of March 1902 must have been a heart breaking day when Peter was left with six children, all under sixteen years of age. Their mother, Augusta had died. As might be expected, Peter did remarry. On 12 Jan 1905 Peter and Grace Agnes Howe Hensley, who was 29, born in Cherokee County, Kansas, were married in Kingfisher County. Grace, a widow with four children, was loved very much by her new family. Peter and Grace had four more children of heir own, making a beautiful family with a total of 14 children. Peter moved to Oklahoma City in 1914, where he lived until his death on 14 Jan 1944.
