Carlos Fernandez Jr.

(Oklahoma Statewide Deaths Published Friday, September 29, 2006 in The Oklahoman) * FERNANDEZ, Carlos Jr., 70, died Sept. 16. Graveside services 3 p.m. today, Hillside Cemetery (Wilson-Little, Purcell).

Patricia Ruth "Robinson" Fishburn

Patricia Ruth (Robinson) Fishburn of Purcell died Sunday April 15, 2007 at Norman Regional Hospital, Norman, Oklahoma.

Fishburn, 70, was born, March 28, 1937 in Dalhart, Texas, to Milton Homer (Bunk) and Mildred (Graham) Robinson.

They moved to Los Angeles, California, during World War II where her father worked in an airplane factory. They returned to Boise City, Oklahoma, after the war.

She graduated from Boise City High School, and met the love of her life, Ron Fishburn, from Purcell, who was working for the Soil Conservation Service as a soil scientist. They were married on January 16, 1958 in Clayton, New Mexico and moved to Purcell. They reared seven children. Due to Ron's military career, the family moved around, but they maintained their home in Purcell where they raised most of their family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Pat worked tirelessly as a homemaker and worked hard caring for her family. She spent countless hours serving as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts for her five boys. She was a gifted artist. She enjoyed working with her hands, especially painting, crocheting, quilting and sewing. She was very involved with the church and a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Noble where she served as a Primary Teacher and nursery leader for many years.

She was preceded in death by, her father, a son, Lorne Milton Fishburn, a brother, Donnie Robinson.

She is survived by her husband of more than forty-nine years, Ron of the home; her mother Mildred Robinson of Purcell; two daughters, Leah and husband Joe Ballard of Purcell; and Ronda and husband Matt Evans of Prattville, Alabama; four sons, Tol of Anchorage, Alaska; Brett and wife Chris of Krum, Texas; Tate and wife Margaret of Corrales, New Mexico and Graham and wife Deborah of Blanchard, Oklahoma; her brother Jerry and wife Teddi Robinson of Fort Lee, New Jersey; 22 grandchildren, and many other family and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday April 20, 2007 at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel. Ron Fishburn officated.

Interment was in the Hillside Cemetery under the direction of the Wilson-Little Funeral Home.

Bobby Joe Dye

Bobby Joe Dye, age 68, of Norman passed away unexpectedly Sunday, August 6, 2006. He married Diane McCoy on June 15, 1958 in Okla. City and remained living there for the next 20 years. Bob worked most of his life as a Candy Salesman and was presently semi retired. His family moved to Norman in August of 2003 and attended the First Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and an avid OU sports fan. He is survived by his wife, Diane of the home in Norman; son, Todd Dye of Norman; daughter, Lori Wright & husband, Larry of Norman; 4 grandchildren, Sarah Hartsock & husband, Brian, Joshua Wright, Megan and Logan Dye; and 1 great-grandson, Port Robert Hartsock. A memorial service will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at the Norman First Baptist Church. The private graveside will be held on 10:00 A.M. at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Memorials may be made to the Okla. Medical Research Foundation, 825 Northeast 13th Street, Okla. City, OK 73014 (For heart disease). Arrangements by WilsonLittle Funeral Home in Purcell.

Alta (Ruth) "Shaddix" Edwards

Alta 'Ruth' (Shaddix) Edwards was born 5-9-1932 in Comanche, Oklahoma, & died 10-6-2007. She is survived by a son, Scott Shaddix; daughter, Debbie Taylor & husband Jeff; daughter, Lana Shaddix; 5 grandsons, 1 granddaughter & 5 great-grandchildren. Burial will be 3:00 pm Wed., October 10, 2007, at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel. 

Gerald L. Elms

Gerald L. Elms died Wednesday. He was 83.

Elms was born Sept. 4, 1918, in Comanche, Texas, to Robert and Edna (McElroy) Elms.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was a member of the VFW in Oklahoma City, First United Methodist Church in Harrah and the Elks Lodge.

He helped start the scouting program in Harrah.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Craig and Mary, Oklahoma City; Jim and Julie, Yukon; two daughters and sons-in-law, Billie and Don Ferguson, Connecticut; Rosalyn and Glen Anderson, California; two brothers, Ira and Elmo, both of Arizona; seven grandchildren, Melinda, Dustin, Kip, Kerri, Megan, Cody and Lisa; three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Payton and Anna Ruth; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Wilbur Jack.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church, Harrah. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Purcell, under the direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.

Tommy Dumas

Funeral services for Tommy Dumas, 59, were held May 30, at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Purcell. Interment under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home.

 

Ora Maxine Dove

Ora Maxine Dove went to be with her heavenly Father on February 29, 2004 from the Deaconess Hospital at the age of 91 years. She was born October 18, 1912 to William David and Martha Viola Taylor Shelnut at Guin, Alabama.
Maxine lived in Del City, Oklahoma since 1996 coming from Purcell, Oklahoma. She was raised and attended school at Guin, Alabama. Maxine lived in the Purcell area from 1934 to 1939. After living in various areas of Oklahoma she moved to Oklahoma City in 1945. She returned to Purcell in 1964 where she lived until 1996. Maxine held a clerical position, retiring in 1977. She loved to share the product of her hands with others, cooking for family and guests, providing home grown vegetables to neighbors, children, and grandchildren, sewing beautiful clothes, not only for herself but for her family as well. Maxine had such a friendly and outgoing personality that even strangers could not help but love her. She was a member of the Howard Memorial Baptist Church in Del City.
Mrs. Dove was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Amos Dove, and eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include one son and three daughters, one brother, two sisters, seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
She was much loved and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.  

 

Jesse J. Dove

Jesse J. Dove., 83, of Temple City, California died Friday, November 11, 2005. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell, Oklahoma with Father Michael Vaught officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery. Yoakum-Damet Funeral Home in Purcell is handling arrangements.
Mr Dove was born December 06, 1921, in Purcell, Oklahoma. He was one of eight children born to Jesse Joseph Dove, Senior and Arilla Mae Mills Dove.
Survivors are one son, one daughter, and one sister. Four grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and one special friend also survive.  

 

Amos L. Dove

Amos L. Dove was born December 02, 1915 to Jesse and Arilla Mills Dove near Purcell. He departed this life December 06, 2000 at the Grace Living Center in Del City at the age of 85 years.
Mr. Dove had lived in Del City for the past 3 years coming from Purcell. He was raised in Purcell, graduating from Purcell High School. On June 17, 1936, Amos and Maxine Shelnut were united in marriage in Purcell, Oklahoma. Amos was a veteran of the US Army serving in World War II. He was a long time employee of Tinker Air Force Base in the machine shop, retiring in 1979. Mr. Dove enjoyed reading, hunting with his dogs, and building model airplanes. He was a member of Howard Memorial Baptist Church in Del City.
Amos was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Maxine, of the home. Also one son, three daughters, one brother, one sister, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.  

 

Jack H. Dorris

Jack H. Dorris, 68, of Lexington died Monday, April 24, at Norman Regional Hospital. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Wilson Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell with the Rev. Barry McConathy officiating. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.

Mr. Dorris was born Feb. 18, 1938, in Clovis, N.M., to Emmitt J. Dorris and Mary M. (Fortenberry) Dorris. He married Sandra Heaton May 29, 1960.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors include his wife; his mother; one son, Levy Dorris and wife Kimmie of Lexington; two daughters, Gail Jansen and husband Brian of Purcell and Mary Leda Nelson and husband Michael of Afton; three brothers, Cone Dorris and wife Bonnie of Yuma, Ariz., Jay Dorris of Phoenix and Curtis Dorris and wife Maggie of Crested Butte, Colo.; four grandchildren, Jennifer, Alisha, Bailey and Trey; one great-grandson, Brandon; and many other relatives and friends.

 

Jack L. Allen

Funeral services for State Trooper Jack L. Allen, 63, of Lexington were held Thursday, July 28, 2005, at Wadley's Funeral Chapel with the Reverend Jeff Pierce and the Reverend Sam Garner officiating. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of Wadley's Funeral Service in Purcell. Mr. Allen died July 24, 2005, at Norman Regional Hospital. He was born March 21, 1942, in Wichita Falls, Texas, the son of Everett Doyle and Anna Caddell Allen. He graduated from Ada High School and attended East Central University in Ada. He had lived in Lexington since 1967, coming from Ada. Mr. Allen married Joye Jay Aug. 7, 1986 in Oklahoma City. He worked for the Ada Police Department for one year, then joined the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, retiring in 1986. After retiring he worked for the Purcell Police Department as assistant police chief for 3-1/2 years, Lexington Police Department for 2-1/2 years, Joseph Harp Correctional Center for 1-1/2 years and Cedar Creek Nursing Home as maintenance supervisor for 2-1/2 years. Mr. Allen was a member of the Troopers Associaton and the National Rifle Association. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Paul Allen and a stepdaughter, Glenda Marie. Survivors include his wife, Joye Allen, of the home; two sons, Carl Allen and his wife, Renee, and Joe Allen and his fiance, Tina Gregory, both of Ada; one daughter, Bobbie Jean Wyatt and her husband, Terry, of Luther; three sisters, Gail Hammond and her husband, Don, of Shawnee, Judy Dooley and her husband, Bob, of Cushing and Carolyn Carwell and her husband, Mark, of New Hampshire; a sister-in-law, Della C. Allen of Bloomingdale, Ill., and four grandchildren. 

 

Francis 'Rick' Anderson

 
Funeral for Francis "Rick" Anderson, 49, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. today at Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel, Purcell, with Mike Butler officiating.

Mr. Anderson died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, in Lawton.

Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Purcell.

He was born Oct. 11, 1959, in Oklahoma City, to Doratha Lufae Hightower and Francis Eugene "Corky" Anderson. He grew up in Del City, where he graduated from high school in 1977. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Army. He served for six years and was stationed in Germany and at Fort Sill. After his discharge in 1984, he remained in Lawton and began his career with civil service. For the past 24 years he worked at Fort Sill as a firefinder radar instructor. During this time he attended Cameron University, where he received a bachelor's degree with honors in computer science in 2003. For the past five years, he was a foster parent to several local children.

Survivors include his mother, Doratha Fishman, Del City; his father and stepmother, Corky and Martha Jo Anderson, Purcell; a sister and brother-in-law, Becky and Mike Deaton, Dallas; two nieces: Britney and Bethany Deaton; two nephews: Chad Deaton and Jimmie Anderson; and many other close relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Harold Fishman; a brother, Ronnie Anderson; and a nephew, Charlie Anderson.

Willodean Barger

(Oklahoma Statewide Deaths Published November 18, 2006 in The Oklahoman) * BARGER, Willodean, 98, died Friday. Graveside services 10 a.m. Monday, Hillside Cemetery (Wilson-Little, Purcell).  

 

Edna Alene McGee Barnes

Funeral services for Edna Alene McGee Barnes, 91, Rosedale, OK, were held Sept. 17, 2007 at Rosedale Baptist Church with the Rev. Kent Wooster officiating. Interment was under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home, Purcell. Mrs. Barnes died at the Lexington Nursing Home.

One of 13 children of Samuel Thomas McGee and Sarah Ellison McGee, early Oklahoma pioneers, she was reared in Okemah where she graduated from high school in 1934. A graduate of East Central College, Ada, OK, she received her degree in elementary education and began teaching at Rosedale Elementary School, Rosedale, McClain Co., OK. It was there that she met her husband, Orel Clarence Barnes, and they were married Aug. 30, 1940 in Ada.

Her teaching career spanned 33 years, including 15 years in Rosedale, Blanchard, Middleburg, Noble, Pauls Valley and Lindsay, OK. In 1957, Mr. Barnes's job moved them to Baytown, TX, where she taught 18 years at Stephen F. Austin Elementary School.

A member of Rosedale Baptist Church, she was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orel Sept. 5, 2003 and 12 brothers and sisters.

Survivors include sons, Joe Barnes, Rosedale, and James Barnes and his wife, Betty, Angel Fire, N.M.; 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Tommy Barnes, Brent Holt, James Swain, David Osborne, Tracy Boles and Justin Boles.

Mattie Ruth Bass

Funeral services for Mattie Ruth Bass, 93, were held March 1, 2005, First Baptist Church, Purcell, with the Rev. Patrick Mead and the Rev. Bob Atterberry officiating.
Interment was under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home. Mrs. Bass died at Sunset Estates Nursing Home, Purcell.

She was 1 of 6 children of Sidney B. McSwain and Maud Lucille Reeves McSwain.

A Pond Creek High School graduate of 1929, she graduated from OBU with a B.A. in music and education in 1944. She taught in Riverdale, Pond Creek, and Cherokee schools.

In 1946 she moved to Purcell and married Wm Vernon Bass, May 25, 1946, and taught in the Dibble and Purcell schools for 15 years. After she left teaching, she gave private piano lessons for the next 18 years.

As an active member of the Baptist Church she taught in every Sunday school department and planned funeral luncheons for 55 years; and was the church organist for 28 years. She was also the organist for Yoakum Funeral Home, Purcell, for 35 years.

She was a member of the Gladiolus Garden Club, over 25 years; Okeyha Mothers Club; Purcell Eastern Star, 50 years; and Kappa Kappa Iota, Retired Teachers Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon, Sept. 9, 1992; son, Bill, March 13, 2003; stepdaugher, Bobbie; brothers, Bird, Joe and Frank; half-sisters, Kate Metcalf and Flora Bowling; half-brother, Foster.

Survivors include daughter-in-law, Linda Bass, Natchitoches, La.; sister, Imogene Dawson, Joplin, Mo.; brother, Bill, Loveland, Co, and 2 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bob Barnett, Larry Melton, Eugene Howard, Frank Conway, Alton Dragoo, and Michael Dillinger.

 

Gary R. Bebout

Funeral services for Gary R. Bebout, 54, of Norman were held Aug. 19, 2006 at Union Hill Baptist Church in Purcell with the Rev. Barry McConathy officiating. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mr. Bebout died Aug. 16, 2006 following a boating accident at Lake Thunderbird.
He was born Feb. 16, 1952 in Blythe, Calif., a twin, and the 11th of 12 children of John Howard Bebout and Nina Lee Roten Bebout. He was reared on a dairy farm in the Fairview community southwest of Purcell, attending Wayne Public Schools, graduating in the class of 1970.
Mr. Bebout worked as a mechanic most of his life. For the past 20 years he participated in boat racing and was a member of the OKC Jet Boat Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ken Bebout; one sister, Joyce Murray; two nephews, Tim and Jeff and one great-nephew, Austin VanWinkle.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Glenna Bebout, of the home in Norman; two sons, Brandon Bebout and his wife, Lindsay, and Bobby Bebout and his wife, Jackie, all of Tulsa; two daughters, Kim Lemons and her husband, Jerry, of Lawton and Kelli Stanfield and her husband, Wendell, of Moore; six brothers, John Bebout and his wife, Edna, of Payson, Ariz., Boyd Bebout and his wife, Lawana, Dennis Bebout and Larry Bebout, all of Purcell, Don Bebout and his wife, Peggy, of Wayne and Dale Bebout and his wife, Marilyn, of Washington; three sisters, Martha George and her husband, Lowell, and Linda Womack, all of Purcell, and Diane Garrett and her husband, Carl, of Bartlesville and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Joe Farrell and Boyd, Don, Dale, Dennis and Larry Bebout.
Honorary pallbearers were Brian Andrews, Lowell George, Jimmy Hill, Tim Case, Tim Lovin, Joe Spencer, Steve Yeager, Brian Geist, Wayne Kokendoffer, Bruce Hunter and Kevin Helm.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the giver's choice.

Bennie Charles Bell

Bennie Charles Bell, 69, of Moore died Monday, June 26. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today at Hillside Cemetery, Purcell. Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home -- Chapel, Moore.

Mr. Bell was born June 9, 1937, in Purcell, to James and Stella Bell. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base for over 30 years. He enjoyed working on computers and doing genealogy, but his first love was his family.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Twila Bell; sons Michael Bell of Moore and Steven Bell and fiance' Karen Babcock of Norman; eight grandchildren, Brandon Babcock, Tyler, Twyla, William and Steven Jr. Bell, Sophie and Reva Wooters and William Taylor; two sisters, Chessteen Olsen and husband Alvin of Lexington and Wanda Ward of Purcell.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Alma Betts

Funeral services for Alma Betts were held Dec. 13, 2006 in Spokane, Wash. Interment services, next to her husband, will be held Monday, Dec. 18, 2006 at 1 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery in Purcell. Local arrangements will be under the direction of Wilson-Little Funeral Home in Purcell.
Mrs. Betts died Dec. 6, 2006.
She was born in Oklahoma but has resided in Spokane for 39 years. She had been a civic and community activist, advocate, volunteer and an active church member all her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harlon Betts Sr.; her parents, Elizabeth Queen Jefferson Hudson and Henry Hudson Sr. and 11 siblings.
Survivors include her children, Elizabeth Ann Betts and Harlon Betts Jr.; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and two sons, William Earl Wallace Sr. and his wife, Mary, and Albert J. Garnett, all of Spokane.

Jewell Eaton

Jewell Eaton was married to A. E. (Bus) Black on Feb. 18, 1936. To this union was born one son, Donnie Lee. Preceding her in death were her son, in 1958, her husband, in 1980, her parents, parents-in-law and sister-in-law, Bernice Black. Surviving are several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Service was under the direction of Little's Funeral Chapel and officiated by Rev. Lucinda Holmes.
