Citizens in the News

Nashville songwriter Vicky McGehee, who is a native of Shawnee, will be featured on the second season of “Gone Country” on CMT.  McGehee also starred in the first season of the show. This year’s series premieres at 7 p.m. today on CMT.  Nashville singer-songwriter John Rich returns as host for the show, which takes seven celebrities from every realm of the entertainment industries and immerses them in all things country for a chance at country music success.  At the end of the two-week challenge, the artist who is most prepared to impress a country audience, as determined by Rich, will record and release a single to country radio.  The cast of the second season of “Gone Country” includes Sebastian Bach, former lead singer of Skid Row; Irene Cara, Grammy and Academy Award-winning singer and actress from “Fame”; Mikalah Gordon, 2005 “American Idol” finalist; Jermaine Jackson, lead singer of The Jackson 5; Chris Kirkpatrick, member of *NSYNC; Lorenzo Lamas, actor from “Renegade” and “Falcon Crest”; and Sean Young, actress in “Blade Runner” and “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.”  Each contestant is paired with two Nashville songwriters who guide them in writing lyrics and music for a country single that they will debut in the series finale. McGehee and fellow songwriter Jeffrey Steele are paired with Sebastian Bach. Other songwriters and the celebrities they’re paired with are: Gary Chapman and Sharon Vaughn (Irene Cara); Tammy Hyler and Frank Meyers (Mikalah Gordon); Billy Lawson and Anthony Smith (Jermaine Jackson); Shane Minor and Trevor Rosen (Chris Kirkpatrick); Shannon Lawson and Brian Davis (Lorenzo Lamas); and Keith Follese and Adriane Follese (Sean Young).  Source: Shawnee News Star, August 14, 2008
