SHAWNEE, Okla. — Al and Bernice Smith of Shawnee recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with a family gathering at Dyer Beaver Lake Cabin in July and a surprise celebration Aug. 1. The couple was married Aug. 1, 1938. Their children and spouses are Virginia and Don Dyer, Aline Smith, Jim Spurr and Ted and Rhonda Smith.
Grandchildren and spouses are Melanie and Karl Hicks, Jason and Jessica Dyer, Paul and Jill Smith, Ken and Allison Smith and Tommy Smith. Great-grandchildren are Eli Hicks, Vin and Izzy Dyer and Tanner Smith. Printed Shawnee News-Star August 11, 2008

SHAWNEE, Okla. — Bill and Beverly Wood of Shawnee will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 16 with a reception. The couple was united in marriage Aug. 14, 1948, in Duluth, Minn. Their children and spouses are Jon and Debbie Hammerstrom, Sandy and Phillip Fulkerson, Bill and June Wood, Pat and Dale Luoma and Joyce and Mark Frye. Grandchildren are Angel, Troy, Marie, Nadean, Nick, Amber, Trevor, Vanessa, Chris, Andy, Amanda, Kristy and Bradley. They have 10 great-grandchildren. Bill was a mill worker, and Beverly was a homemaker. The couple are members of the Evanglistic Center in Shawnee. The couple moved from Duluth, Minn., to Shawnee in 1995. SHAWNEE, Okla. — Clois and LaDonna King were married Aug. 4, 1958, at First Church of God in Tecumseh. They have lived in Tecumseh for 43 years where Mr. King owns King’s Garage. Mrs. King has been employed for 20 years by Stage, where she is the assistant manager. They attend Liberty Baptist Church in Shawnee. The couple has two daughters, one son, a son-in-law and daughter-in law, Terri and Johnny Barnhart of Tennessee, Tracy Myers of Tecumseh and Troyce and Dana King of Shawnee. The couple has nine grandchildren: Cortney, Jordan, Sarah, Jarad, James, Jenny, Jon Derek, Reagan and Lauren. They have seven great-grandchildren: Khalynn, Khylei, Khabrei, Kayleigh, Wyatt, D.J. and Haley. They will celebrate with family and friends Saturday.

Kenneth "Bud" and Thearl Stanley of Tecumseh celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary Aug. 8 at Unity Health Center's north campus, but thanks to the fourth floor night shift, there was a party anyway, complete with a cake, green plant and "Happy 66th Anniversary" banner over the door. "A room full of nurses surprised us," the Stanleys said. "We received many flowers, balloons, cards, calls and wishes at home from friends and church family too." Thearl was born July 15, 1919, in Arkansas and moved to the Macomb area in 1930. Kenneth was born March 17, 1919, seven miles west of Tribbey. These photos of them were taken in 1942, the year they were married.
