Another New Star In The Flag
Washington, Nov. 16;
The state of Oklahoma was admitted to the Union today
President Roosevelt this morning signed the proclamation adding the territories of Indian Territory and Oklahoma jointly as one state. In affixing his signature the president used a pen made from a quill taken from a quill taken from the wing of an American eagle. The pen will be deposited in the archives of the Oklahoma historical society.

The proclamation creating the new state was signed by the president in the cabinet room in the presence of a number of citizens of Oklahoma. Senators Carter and Dixon of Montana and Warner of Missouri. When he had finished writing his name the president looked up and exclaimed “Oklahoma is a state.” He then rose, bowed and retired to his private office.
