Captain Pat Montgomery- "Pat, the "fighting Irishman," was the backbone of the team. Without a doubt he was one of the best tackles in high school football. Captain Elect Martin Smith- "Mart." proved himself a general of exceptional ability. His average of goals kicked was over four times as many as those missed. His heady work, in combination with the response of the entire machine, made this season one of the best in the history of Corvallis football. Here's luck to the skipper of next year's team! Roger Montgomery, Left Half- "Monty" could always be depended on for spectacular as well as steady playing. At all times he made yardage when called upon and to him goes a good share of the season's touchdowns. "Monty" will be fighting for C.H.S. next year. John Smith, Left End- Johnnie's long legs were decidedly useful in service to C.H.S., for he was always on the job ready to interfere with the opponent who dared to try any tricks. He was fast and dependable, Johnnie will be missed next year. Grant Olson, Right End- Dependable and fast, "Ole" was continually spoiling the well laid plans of his opponents. Through his ability to block punts and by his defensive work, he has won recognition throughout Oregon. This "Ole's" third and last year. Herman Husen, Full back- "Flash" played strong consistent football throughout the season, making yardage through the line almost at will. It will be hard to find a man with grit, weight, and headwork to fill his position. Lester Gault, Left End- "Little Les" was little but loud, his opponents knew he was close too late to retrieve themselves. C.H.S. expects great things of "Les" in the next two years. Harold Price, Right Half- "Sonny" was right on the spot when called on to carry the ball or run interference. Dependable to the nth degree, he was a strong force on the team and will be missed next year. George Hukill, Center- "Uncle," the fighting Swede, was noted for his accurate passing, even on a wet, slick field. He refused to give an inch to anyone, regardless of his size or ability. "Huke" will be back on the job next year. Lloyd Rawling, Left Half- At half "Ham" proved himself a formidable enemy on both offensive and defensive attack. "Ham" showed excellent ability at running the ends. His speed and shiftiness will be a factor in next year's team. Austin Culbertson, Right Guard- "Cub" was a bear at guard, and all the worries of the early part of the season were soon forgotten in his stone-wall defense and in his tank movement in the offensive. his first and last year of football will not soon be forgotten by C.H.S. enthusiasts. Cline Smith, Guard- "Tub" made a splendid showing this year, giving promise of real football ability. Whenever he went into the game, he was a decided factor in a victory. Tub will be one of the big men on next year's team. James Taylor, Left Guard- "Jimmie," the scrappy little guard, played consistent ball all season. His fighting spirit won him the respect of all the students. His intelligent offensive and stubborn defensive ball will be an asset to the team next year. Robert Close, Right Half- "Bob's" diminutive size made him appear an easy mark, but his opponents soon found out that "seein' isn't always believin'." His broken field runs made him one of the outstanding men on the team. He will be missed next year. Harold Parmenter, Right Guard- "Parmie" represented the rooks on the team. Although green, he made a good showing for himself. Much is expected of his next year. Chester Martin, Left Tackle- "Moose," who did the punting for the team, had a knack of getting off his punts under the most unfavorable conditions. His long spirals often kept our goal out of danger. his defensive work caused his opponents much worry all season. "moose" will be back another year. |

Carl Daniels, Captain- "Carlo" proved his right to the title of Corvallis High's greatest runner by coming out high-point man in every meet of the season. his sensational time in the 100, 220 and 440 yard dashes featured every meet. "Carlo" also could be counted on for points in the broad jump and discus. As anchor man on the speedy relay team he brought victory twice by sensational runs. Byron Bradshaw, Captain Elect- "By" started the season slowly but finished like a whirlwind. His presence in the 220-- and 440 yard dashes and on the relay team helped add points to every meet. He showed great possibilities of development in the middle distances and is expected to do big things in his last year. Vose Adams- "Spike" was a premier distance man, winning every race he entered. his time of 2:03 in the 880 yard run and 4:37 in the mile, marked him as a sure first place man in every meet. Vose is lost by graduation. Wellington Gault- Forced to stay out of the mile, his best event, by doctor's order, "Well" ran in the half mile, and captured many points for his school. Dependability and heady running made him a valuable man to the team. C.H.S. misses him this year. Foster Martin- "Fos" was developed from an inexperienced runner to a speedy mile and half mile. His long legs and fighting push carried him to many victories in his last year at C.H.S. Webley Edwards- "Web" ran the hurdles and took care of the broad and high jumps. He could always be counted on for firsts in at least one of them. "Web" was also head-off man in the relay team. This was his first and last year at Corvallis. Roger Montgomery-"Monty" showed his worth in the 220 and 440 yard dashes. He was short in stature but long in fight, coming up hard in the finishes. He also ran a good heat for the relay team. Herman Husen- "Flash" was Corvallis High's only weight man. Not spectacular, but up to the standard set by the runners. He is living up to expectations this year. Wayne Tippery- As a pole vaulter and high jumper "Tipp" showed lots of promise. He is making his letter this year. Harry Sausen- "Mike" was a comer in the javelin and hurdles and is making good this year. Barlow Call-Barlow worked hard all year in the hurdles and his good form gave him several points over much faster runners. |

Captain Eudora Mitchell-"Dode," the plucky forward, won a big place in the hearts of the members of her team and of the students of C.H.S. As a sure shot and a steady captain "Dode" could not have been surpassed. Marjorie Sherwin, Forward- "Marge" was a close second to "Doed" She was right there when it came to getting the ball and made her share of the points. Bessie Hardenburger and Ruth Wolfe, guards- Bessie and Ruth, the fighting guards, showed marvelous ability in keeping down the score of their opponents, few forwards being too speedy or too cleaver for them. Ruth is one of the two girls who will be back again next year. Pearl Horning, center- "Pug" was a high jumper and steady player. Her coolness and composure during the game put courage into the team. "Pug" is the other girl of this year's team who will be back. Ivy Sherer, side-center- "Ivy," the fast little side center was undoubtedly the fastest girl on the team. Her ability to slip under the other girl and get the ball was amazing. She did much in making the season successful. Mildred Banton, Ruby Stannard, Lucile Sharp, and Lillian Heslin, the substitutes, must not be overlooked. When one was put into the game she played with all the strength she possessed and each was instrumental in winning several games. |

Herman Husen, captain- "Flash," our husky center, was the mainstay of the team and was always depended on for his share of the baskets. His specialty was breaking up the opponents passes. He has spent three brilliant seasons for C.H.S. and will be missed next year. Lester Gault, captain elect- "Slicker" Gault, our fighting little forward proved his ability this year by playing star ball throughout the season. He promises to be a very able captain for next year. Chester Martin- "Moose," our big guard, was the terror of opposing teams. he was very fond of breaking up long passes and will be a valuable man next year. Charley Tharp- "Charley" played guard like a veteran though it was his first year on the varsity. His close guarding was the undoing of many a star forward. Charley's place will be hard to fill next year. Although Harold "Sonny" Price, Lloyd "Ham" Rawlings, Robert "Bob" Close, and Wayne "Tipp" Tippery did not play time enough to make their letters this year, the team would not have been what it was without the faithful services of these men. They played the same consistent basketball as the men who made their letters, and filled the berth they were put into in A-1 style. "Tipp" will be back next year and will go a long ways to fill the hole left by graduating men. |
