Website updated with new data October 18, 2015

Harney County is available for adoption!

As you can see this county is looking for someone to adopt it and spend some time making it look nice and fill it with helpful information for the researchers searching in the area! Please check out the volunteer page to find out what it takes to be a host and while you are looking around why don't you join the mailing list for the Pacific Coast States!

We regret that we are unable to perform personal research for folks.
All data we come across will be added to this site. We thank you for visiting and hope you'll come back again to view the updates we make to this site.

In 1889, Harney, the largest county in Oregon, was carved out of Grant County and named for Harney Lake. The lake, in turn, was named for Maj. Gen. William S. Harney, commander of the Department of Oregon, U.S. Army, from 185859. Harney was instrumental in opening areas of eastern Oregon for settlement.
