Hi, I'm Shauna Williams the host of the Oregon Trails project which is a branch of Genealogy Trails. Our goal is to offer as much free source information online as possible! Oregon is a new part of the project just getting up and going in March and we need your help.

We need county hosts so that Lane and other counties can be wonderful resources for other researchers out there. Think you may like to try to be a host? Please click here to see what it involves.

We also need any data you would like share, please consider emailing me with your contributions. I will post them ASAP!

Please check out the Oregon Trails as well as the Genealogy Trails and good luck in your search!

Lane County was named for Gen. Joseph Lane, a rugged frontier hero who was Oregon’s first territorial governor. Pioneers traveling the Oregon Trail in the late 1840s came to Lane County mainly to farm. The county’s first district court met under a large oak tree until a clerk’s office could be built in 1852. A few years later, the first courthouse opened in what is now downtown Eugene. With the building of the railroads, the market for timber opened in the 1880s. Today, wood products are still an important part of the economy in addition to high-tech manufacturing and tourism. Lane County government operates under a home rule charter approved by voters in 1962.
