Andrew J. Bittinger

"ANDREW J. BITTINGER, farmer and lumberman, P. O. Arendtsville, was born in Franklin Township, near Arendtsville, September 6, 1839, and is a son of Andrew and Barbara (Beamer) Bittinger. He was reared to farming, and remained at home until twenty-one years of age. In 1865 he married Anna K. Warren, a daughter of Elijah Warren, of Menallen Township, this county, and soon after took charge of his father’s old homestead, which consisted of 260 acres. In 1881 he bought the property, and has since also carried on a lumber manufacturing business, turning out about 60,000 feet per annum, mostly of white pine. He is a Republican in politics; has served his vicinity as school director six years, and one term as assistant assessor. He is a member of the Lutheran Church at Arendtsville, and takes an active part in supporting it; has also served as elder of that congregation two years.
