"CORNELIUS LOTT, farmer and stock-grower, P. O. Plainview, was born in Mountpleasant Township, this county, in 1821, to Henry (a farmer) and Magdalena (Houghtelin) Lott, natives of Adams County and of Holland-Dutch descent. In a family of eleven children, Cornelius is the eldest. He spent his earlier years with his parents on the farm; received his education in the school of his neighborhood; and since youth has followed agricultural pursuits. He is the owner of 150 acres of land, where he now resides. In 1849 he married Elizabeth Beggs, who died in 1853, in Lauderdale County, Tenn., where he resided at the time. He then married, in 1857, Mary J., daughter of John McIlhenny, and of Scotch-Irish origin. She has borne her husband four children, three of whom John K., David G. and M. Lizzie are living. Mr. Lott is a member of the United Presbyterian Church, in which he has been elder for eight years, and Mrs. Lott is a member of the Presbyterian Church. He is a Republican in politics; and takes an active interest in school matters and the education of his children, two of whom are teachers. He was jury commissioner from 1867 to 1870."
