Taughinbaugh, Samuel H.

"SAMUEL H. TAUGHINBAUGH, farmer and stock-raiser, P. O. New Chester, was born in Reading Township, this county, June 12, 1838, a son of John L. and Barbara (Shank) Taughinbaugh, natives of this county, of German origin. John L. was a saddler, a trade he followed successfully through life. Samuel H., the eldest of the family, was reared on the farm, attended the common schools and also Cumberland Valley Institute, and taught school for two winters, but has made farming his principal occupation, in which he has met with success. He is the owner of 270 acres of well improved land-the farm where he resides, near New Chester, consisting of 180 acres. He married, in 1861, Sarah E., daughter of Samuel Deardorff, a farmer of German descent. Their children are Christian D., Anna C., William A., Samuel Emory, Charles G., Jacob Harvey, Sarah Ida and Alice May. Mr. and Mrs. Taughinbaugh are members of the Lutheran Church. In politics he is a Democrat."
