"MARTIN S. WITMOR, farmer and stock-grower, P. O. Table Rock, was born in this county, August 24, 1829, a son of Henry and Catherine (Eaholtz) Witmor; the former of whom was born in Maryland, July 4, 1801, and died in 1874; was a farmer and served in several minor offices while a resident of Butler Township; latter was born in this county, in 1803, and is still living with her son (our subject); she is of German origin. They were parents of nine children, eight of whom grew to maturity, Martin S. being the second. He was reared on the farm, attended the common schools of his native county, and embarked in the nursery business, which he followed until 1880, and during that time also paid some attention to farming, but made the nursery business his principal occupation. He is the owner of the old homestead of 112 acres of fine land well improved. In 1865 he enlisted in the One Hundred and First Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and was discharged at the close of the war. He is a member of the I.O.O.F., of the Reformed Church, and has served his township as assessor. |
