Sloan, Mrs. Alice Communicated --Departed this life, on the evening of the 8th instant, Mrs. Alice Sloan, wife of Samuel Sloan, aged 37 - after a protracted illness of two months, which she bore with an uncommon share of Christian fortitude and resignation; and, altho' she suffered much bodily pain, yet not a murmur escaped her lips during the whole of her confinement. On the Saturday previous to her decease, on recovering out of a spasm, she called her family around her, and gave them, individually, a charge - the young to remember their Creator all the days of their youth, and all to attend to the things that belong to their everlasting peace and bade them farewell without the least apparent emotion - as tho' she were only to be absent a few days. 15 May 1822 Gettysburg Compiler

Stevens, Jefferson Communication.
In Berlin, Adams county, on the 9th of April, 1830, Jefferson Stevens, in the 27th year of his age.

He is gone! Who, a few days ago, was amongst us, mingling in the special circle, with friends, acquaintances, associates, and companions.

In this event we have lost one dear to us, and beloved by all for his obliging, friendly, and inoffensive character; and society one of its choicest members, in regard to morality, temperance, industry and frugality. In the prime and vigour of life, has he (by the interposition of a divine, and omnipotent hand,) been removed from amongst us, leaving us to mourn his irreparable loss; and having taken leave of all earthly things, friends, acquaintances, associates, and companions, as well as society in general, are left to deplore his early exit.

His remains were interred on Sunday the 11th, at the White Church, (formerly Yellow Church) attended by a numerous concourse of friends and acquaintances.
