MRS. WESTANNA MCCAY PARDEE
One of the oldest residents of the Pittsburgh district, Mrs. Westanna McCay Pardee, who celebrated her 100th birthday in May, died yesterday [Dec. 7, 1959] at the home of her daughter in Mt. Lebanon. Mrs. Pardee was the oldest living graduate of Chatham College, where she received her degree in 1879, and the oldest member of East Liberty Presbyterian Church, having joined in 1878. She was born in Clarion County, the daughter of a clergyman who died while serving as a chaplain in the Civil War. Her family came to Pittsburgh more than 90 years ago, floating down the Clarion and Allegheny Rivers on a raft. Mrs. Pardee lived most of her life in East Liberty, where her late husband, John Pardee, operated a hardware store. She was active in missionary and Sunday school work for her church until recent years. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. O. C. Nichol, of 285 Atlanta Dr., Mt. Lebanon, with whom she had been living in recent years. In addition to Mrs. Nichol, she leaves one other daughter, Mrs. Ralph Muldoon; two sons, Dr. Arthur M. Pardee, of Vermillion, S.D., and Walter W. Pardee, of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Friends will be received at H. Samson's, 537 N. Neville St., Oakland. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The family suggests memorial donations to the Presbyterian Church Commission on Ecumenical Mission and Relations.
