SEXTON--Funeral services for Arthur A. Sexton were held
yesterday morning at the Immaculate Conception church. Rev. Father
Mandalari officiating. The body was placed in the receiving vault at
Strong Brothers mortuary following the service until Mrs. Sexton can take it to
Pittsburgh, Penn., for internment.
Pittsburg,
Pa.--Because police authorities refused him permission to attend his
father's funeral, Robert Shankey, 35 years old, died in a cell in jail on
Monday of a broken heart. He was sentenced to 48 hours in jail for
boisterous conduct at a picnic.
SHAW--On
Friday, December 15, 1899, at 5 p. m., at the family residence, 4825 Butler
street, William Shaw, in his 64th year. Member of Sons of St. George, Lincoln
Standard No. 43, and Somky City Castle, No. 16. A. O. K. of M. C.

Thursday evening.
Funeral on Sunday, at 2 p.
m., from her daughter's residence, 807 Rebecca street, Allegheny.
Interment private.
SMART--On Thursday, December 14, 1899, at 7:10
o'clock p. m., Julia A. Smart, aged 75 years.
Funeral services at the late residence on Fifth avenue,
Homestead,on Sunday, December 17, at 2 o'clock p. m. Internment in Homestead
Cemetery.
Funeral services for
Mrs. Jessie Bell Smith, 87, who died in the home of her daughter, Mrs. O.
W. Clark of Youngwood, Wednesday, will be held in the Beinhauer morturary,
West Liberty avenue, at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be in
Uniondale Cemetery. Mrs. Smith was born in Scotland and had residedin
Pittsburgh district for 60 years. She was a member of the Pittsburgh Bible
Institute and Elizabeth McGimpfey Rebekah Lodge 415, I.O.O.F. She leaves
three daughters, Mrs. W. W. Foreman, Mrs. O. W. Clark, and Mrs. J. W.
Reffner, all of Youngwood; two sons, George A. and John R. Smith; 10
grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Max
Solomon , of Braddock, formerly of this city, died this week at his home
in Braddock. He was born in Poland and came to America 20 years
ago. His wife and six children survive.
Pittsburgh, Jan. 2 (UP) - Robert Steele, 60, deputy warden of the
Allgheny county jail, died late yesterday in a hospital. He had been deputy warden of
the jail for 20 years.
Herman
Stern , aged 82, died on Monday of this week, May fifteenth. Mr. Stern was
born in Bavaria, and came to this country in his youth. For more than
sixty two years he had been a resident of Pittsburgh. He was a member of
the Rodeph Shalom Temple, The Independent Order B'Nai B'Rith, and the Cremieux
Society.
Mr. Stern is survived by seven daughters, Mr. Max Klein,
Mrs. E. J. Thalheimer, Mrs. C. Cohen of Brooklyn, N. Y., Mrs. Morris Levino,
Mrs. J. M. Friedman, Mrs. Jack Hart, and Mrs. A. Levino of Washington, Funeral
services were held on Wednesday morning at the home of Milton D. Klein , 309
South Atlantic Avenue, East End.
Hangs self on New Years
Pittsburgh, Pa., Jan. 2-(UP)-Despondent
over ill health, Alexander Sugar, 50, committed suicide late yesterday by
hanging himself in the cellar of his home.
