August 17, 1903 Beer Saves His Life Beaver, Pa., Aug 17 - William C. Johnston was almost frozen to death in a big refrigerator in the meat shop of Goll Bros., in West Bridgewater. The accidental opening of the ice box by John Goll, who was exhibiting it to a friend, released Johnston, who was just losing consciousness after two hours confinement in the frigid temperature. Johnston had noticed a case of beer in the refrigerator and had gone in and sampled a bottle. While thus engaged Mr. Goll slammed the door, thinking he had carelessly left it open. Johnston was kept alive by consuming the entire case of beer.
