
Indiana Evening Gazette (Indiana, Pennsylvania)November 11, 1911 Body Found in Well Aliquippa, Pa., Nov 11 - The boyd of an unidentified man was found in a well on the John Heckman farm, near here, and the police believe they have a deep murder mystery to solve. A strap around the body indicates the victim had been carried to the well, the covering of which was carefully replaced after the body had been dropped in. A 32-caliber bullet was found in the man's head.
November 14, 1913 Feet Burners At Work - Torture and Rob Aged Man, But Two Are Captured Beaver, Pa., Nov. 13 - Three masked men broke into the residence of Philip Stakely of West Bridgewater and after tying him to a chair burned his feet till he disclosed the hiding place of $27.15. Police tracked the robbers through the snow to Fallston, where they captured two of them, who gave their names as Charles Tice of West Bridgewater and John Kohler, alias Sauers, of Monaca.
August 11, 1931 Fallstaff Barricades Highway - Pittsburg Auto Club Petitions For Removal Beaver - a petition for an injunction to compel Fallston borough officials to remove barricades from state highway route No 51 was to be presented in Beaver county court today by the Pittsburg Auto Club. Officials barricaded the highway because of an alleged dangerous curve on Fallston hill.
February 3, 1932 Judge Rules To Restrain Blockade Beaver Falls - Heavy trucks without proper brakes rather than the location of the highway constitutes the real menace at Fallston Hill, Judge W. A. McConnell ruled yesterday in making permanent an injunction restraining Fallston borough from barricading the highway. The borough blocked the highway to force the state to change its location.
July 1, 1934 Driver of Runaway Truck Unhurt Beaver Falls, Pa., June 29 - Riding his madly plunging truck like a broncho buster, Paul H. Edwards, 29, of Detroit, battered his careening way down Fallston hill, demolished several hundred feet of steel safety fence, then dropped to Beady's run road and lived to tell the tale today. The paper truck was demolished but Edwards was only scratched and bruised.
November 24, 1936 Beaver - County Commissioner H. A. Hunter said preparations are nearing completion by the road commission for construction of a new road eliminating dangerous Fallston Hill, scene of many accidents.
February 9, 1953 Train Crash Stops P&LE Rail Service Beaver Falls, Pa., Fourteen cars of a 104-car eastbound freight train jumped the track, blocking all four main lines of the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad today near Fallston, two miles south of Beaver Falls. No one was injured. One steel hopper car filled with limestone plunged over a 50-foot embankment and crashed down on Route 51. No autos were near enough to be involved in the mishap. Traffic on the highway was halted about an hour. Three of the P. and L. E. tracks were badly damaged. Rails were ripped up and some of them badly twisted, hung over the embankment. Wreck crews were summoned from McKees Rocks and New Castle, Pa. Persons who would have used passenger trains over the tracks were rerouted by bus. The cause of the wreck was not immediately determined.
August 31, 1960 Heavy Rains Flood Part of Beaver Co. Beaver Falls, Pa - A thunderstorm flooded streets and knocked out power and telephone service in parts of northern Beaver County Tuesday. The storm which lasted about 45 minutes, hit particulary hard at Beaver Falls and New Brighton. Flash flooding left as much as three feet of water in Beaver Falls streets, tied up traffic and flooded basements. The Bell Telephone Co. said about 250 customers were temporarily without phone service in the area. Power to Radio Station WBVP here was knocked out for a half hour, but the station continued broadcasting with an emergency gasoline-powered generator. Fire Chief Edward Phillips of Beaver Falls directed pumping operations at flooded basements in the business section. Electricity and gas were shut off in some buildings as a precautionary measure. A number of autos were trapped for a time by high water but there were no injuries. At Fallston, debris washed down by the rain blocked Route 51 for a brief period. Lightening blew out the fire alarm system in Beaver Falls and a fire siren. A short circuit in an air conditioner unit, believed caused by water, started a small blaze at the Yough Center clothing store in Beaver Falls. At the Tri-State Co., a Beaver Falls restaurant supply firm, water in the basement resulted in damage of $10,000, according to owner Harry Braun.
