Melancholy Occurrences
A young man by the name of Philip Coovert, of this county, aged about 18 years, was drowned on the 9th inst., in Mr. Ralson's Mill-dam, Slipperyrock creek; he and a young lad, were out in the woods, on the search of some hogs, belonging to Major Coovert, a relation of his, with whom he lived, and when he came to the Mill-dam, he gave the gun he had with him, to the boy, and went on the ice with the intention of sliding, when the ice gave way, and he sunk to rise no more! Search was made, and he was found in about half an hour afterwards, but the vital spark was extinct.
