THOMPSON, Beulah Sterling - Age 69, a resident of 313 North Main St., Masontown, died Sunday, September 8, 1974 in the University Medical Center, Morgantown, West Virginia. She was a daughter of the late Jesse and Mary Wright Sterling, and was born at Masontown on October 11, 1904. She was a member of the Masontwon First Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder and past president of the Gene T. Messmore Class, charter member and past president of the B.P.W., Masontown, chosen Woman of the Year in 1968, charter member and past president of the V.F.W. Ladies' Auxiliary, Masontown, and past president of the V.F.W. District Auxiliary. She taught school in the Masontown-German Township area for many years, and was a retired caseworker for the Pennsylvania Dept. of Public Assistance. Preceding her in death were her husband, Roy A. Thompson; one sister, Josephine Parkins; one brother, Leroy Sterling. Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Fred (Maude) Danials of Masontown, Mrs. Harold (Zola) Fast, and Wanda S. Wilson, both of Uniontown; one brother, Bruce W. Sterling, Sr. of Rockville, Maryland; several nieces and nephews, Friends will be received in the Grant R. Townsend Funeral Home, 220 South Main St., Masontown, today from 7 to 9 p,m., Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and until Wednesday at 2 p.m., the hour of service, with Rev. Earl P. Confer officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown.
THOMPSON, Roy A. - Age 72 years of 313 N. Main St., Masontown, died Tuesday, June 26, 1973 at his home. He was the son of the late David and Amanda Stewart Thompson and was born September 1, 1900 in Weston, W.Va. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Masontown, where he served as an Elder, Trustee, and on the Board of Deacons, Veteran of World War I, and a Charter Member of Masontown VFW Post 4584. Surviving is his wife, Beulah Sterling Thompson; three sisters, Emma Helmick, Weston, W.Va., Vivian Thompson, Buffalo, N.Y., and Rushia Richards, Weston, W.Va. He was predeceased by two brothers, Clarence and Wilbur: and a sister, Lilly. Friends will be received in the Grant R. Townsend Funeral Home, Masontown, today and Thursday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday until 2 p.m. the hour of service. Rev. Robert A. Orr, Jr. will officiate. Interment in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Uniontown. Military Rites will be accorded at the Graveside by the Masontown VFW.
TOLBERT, Bessie S. Nicholson - A resident of 5 Snyder Terrace. Uniontown, died in the Uniontown Hospital February 17. 1966 at 10:55 p.m. at the age of 87 years. She was a member of the Central Christian Church of Uniontown, a member of the Willing Workers Class of the Grace Chapel Church of High House, she was a charter member of the German Grange, and a member of the Daughters of America, She is survived by her husband Frank Tolbert. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, John and Arthur. Friends are being received in the T. Leonard Sangston Funeral Home, McClellandtown, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon. with Dr. Earl P. Confer officiating. Burial will be in the LaFayette Memorial Park cemetery. The German Grange will conduct ritualistic services at 8 this evening.

TOWNSEND, Bessie (Lyons) - Age 64 years of High House St., Smithfield, died Monday, August 11, 1975 at 6:30 p.m. at her home. She was born in Lake Lynn, Pa. on June 14, 1911 the daughter, of the late Emmett and Martha Spiker Lyons. She was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ, the Smithfield Rebekah Lodge No. 309, the York Run Grange and the Smithfield Golden Agers. She was an employee of Moser's Super Market in Smithfield for eighteen years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold G. Townsend on December 20, 1965 and a brother Clarence. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. James (Betty) Taylor of Barberton, Ohio; a granddaughter, Jane and a grandson, Jack; five sisters, Mrs. James (Marg) Sethfman of Centerville, Pa., Mrs. Homer (Kathryn) Christopher of Point Marion, Mrs. Chester (Rose) Haught of Lake Lynn, Mrs. Henry (Peggy) Jenkins of Richeyville, Mrs. Clyde (Dot) Shaffer of Smithfield; two brothers, Bernard (Cotton) Lyons of Pt. Marion adn Morgan (Buck) Lyons of Philippi, W. Va. The family will receive friends in the John F. Brownfield Funeral Home, Smithfield today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday until 2 p.m. the hour of service. Evangelist Richard Geringswald will officiate. Interment in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Oak Grove Church of Christ. Ritualistic services will be held by the Lady Gallatin Rebekah Lodge Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and by York Run Grange Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
William C. Townsend Sr. of New Kensington, formerly of German Twp., died yesterday in Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was 51. Born May 9, 1924 in German Twp., he was the son of Frank J. Townsend Sr. of New Geneva and the late Elizabeth Rockwell Townsend who died in 1932. Mr. Townsend was employed with the Blawnox Steel Corp. for 25 years. He was a World War II veteran having served with the U. S. Army, was a member of the First Baptist Church of New Kensington, and was a resident of New Kensington since 1950. Surviving besides his father are his wife, Hilda L. Horn Townsend; two sons, William C. Jr. of Cleveland, Ohio and Robert Townsend, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Sharon Peterson of Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Connie Warmouth of Youngstown, Ohio, and Carol Townsend, at home; five grandchildren ; three brothers, Frank Jr. of Uniontown, Vernon of Columbia, Md., and Carl of Lebanon, N. J.; two sisters, Mrs. Becky Salser of Apollo and Mrs. Esther Diamond of Masontown. Friends will be received at the Churchfield Funeral Home, New Kensington today and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. in the Masontown Mennonite Church where funeral services will be conducted with Rev. Richard H. Griffith, pastor of the New Kensington First Baptist Church, and Rev. Carl Opel of the Masontown Mennonite Church officiating. Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
The name of Mrs. Em Kathryn (Collins) Townsend, surviving step- mother of the late William C. Townsend Sr., 51, formerly of German Twp. and a resident of New Kensington, who died Wednesday, was inadvertantly omitted from a story which appeared yesterday.
VAN BREMEN, Ruth O'Brien - Age 66, a resident of Main St., Smithfield, died suddenly in the Uniontown Hospital at 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 1974. She was born September 17,1907 at Fairchance, a daughter of the late Frank and Blanche O'Brien. She was a member of the Smithfield United Methodist Church, Lady Gallatin Rebekah Lodge 309, Golden Age Club of Smithfield, and Ladies Auxiliary of the Smithfield Volunteer Fire Dept. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, was her husband, James J. Van Bremen, in 1967. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Harold (Phyllis) Elliott of Warren, Ohio; one son, James C., Jr. of Ashland, Ohio; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Freda O'Brien of Fairchance. The family will receive friends in the Vance Brownfield Funeral Home, Smithfield, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the hour of service, with Pastor Richard Downing officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Moriah Baptist Cemetery, Smithfield. Rebekah Lodge 309 will hold ritualistic services today at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
William R. (Jeff) Walters, 49, Smithfield, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1976 at the University Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. He was born at Leckrone, Jan. 18, 1927, a son of Theodore Walters of Leckrone, and the late Isabelle Tolbert Walters. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Smithfield, Smithfield Volunteer Fire Dept., Lodge 497 of the Sons of Italy, VFW Post 47 in Uniontown, Smithfield American Legion. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was presently employed at the Maple Creek Coal Mine, belonging to UMWA Local 1248. In addition to his father he is survived by his wife, Kathryn Sutton Walters; a daughter, Lou Ann, and a son, Ewing R. (Tubby) Walters, both at home; seven brothers, Harold Walters of Leckrone, Henry Walters of Rhode Island, Tom Walters of Leckrone, Leroy Walters of Rhode Island, Gene Walters of Conneticut, Donald Walters of Amend; three sisters, Mrs. Elsie McGowan of New York, Mrs. Betty Allen of Connecticut, Mrs. Robert (Doris) Lewis of Fairchance. Funeral arrangements were conducted by the John F. Brownfield Funeral Home, Smithfield. Rev. Nelson Krute, Rev. Paul Tarcy and Rev. Richard Downing officiated with interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Smithfield.
WAUGAMAN, Margaret Mae - Age 93, died in LaFayette Manor on Saturday morning, November 2, 1974. She was born January 25, 1881 in Washington Township, Indiana County, a daughter of the late O.W. and Ellen Hileman Shields. Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband William Waugaman, in 1936, a daughter, Margaret Ellen Hillman, in 1972, a sister, Bertha Ewing, and two brothers, Charles and Earl Shields. She was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Colonel Andrew Lynn Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, and a fifty year member of Laurette Chapter 178, Order of Easter Star. Surviving are two nephews and five nieces. The family will receive friends in the Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home, 80 Morgantown St., Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Dr. Vincent T. Ross, her pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery.
WELTNER, Robinson G. Sr. - Age 88 Years, Of 19 Bryan St., died Monday, July 17, 1972 at 3:35 p.m. in the Uniontown Hospital. He was a retired, elevator Operator in the Fayette Bank Building for 17 years. He was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church. He was perceded in death by his parents James A. and Malzina Alabaugh Weltner, a daughter Susan Weltner in 1920, a sister Elizabeth Ingraham Surviving are his wife, Grace Q. Weltner, one son , Dr. Robison G. Weltner, Jr. and one daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Balsey, Uniontown, two grand children. Freinds; will be received in the Jerome W Shell Funeral Home, 164 S. Mt. Vernon Ave. Tuesday evening only from 7 to 9 p.m. Private services will be held, Wednesday. Interment in Church Hill Cemetery, McClellandtown.
WHETZELL, George - Age 83 years of Merrittstown, Pa., died Friday, June 13, 1975 at 2:30 a.m. in the Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was the son of the late George A. and Elizabeth Cranston Whetzell. He was born in Trotter, Pa. on June 28, 1892. He was a Veteran of World War I, U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post 590, Republic. Smithfield United Methodist Church. He was a retired Store Manager for the Crescent Supply. Surviving is his wife, Mary Kelly Whetzell; a son, George, West Hyattsville, Md.; a daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Betty) Feduska, Pittsburgh, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Jean Matthews, Smithfield; seven grandchildren; a great grandchild, Kerrie. He was predeceased by the following brother and sisters, Chester Whetzell, Katherine Huhn, Mary Nixon, and Nell Morgan. Friends will be received in the Carlo J. Marucci Funeral Home, Route 166, Republic, today 5 to 9 p.m. and Sunday 10 to 9 p.m. and Monday until 11 a.m. the hour of service. Rev. Richard Downing will officiate. Interment in Lafayette Memorial Park. Military Rites at the Graveside by the American Legion 590 Republic.
WILLIAMS, Mary Elizabeth - Age 84 years, of 155 Union Street, Uniontown, Pa., died Thursday, July 29, 1971, in the Uniontown Hospital. Born April 14. 1887 in Midway, Pa. the daughter of the late William H. and Sara Davis Thomas. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, David Williams, February 25, 1958. She was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church and the Woman's Bible Class. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Thelma E. Lorenzi of Uniontown; and one son, Dr. David E. Williams, of Uniontown; two foster sons: Daniel Thomas of Colwyn, Pa. and John W. Thomas of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two sisters: Mrs. Bertha Abernathy of Canonsburg and Mrs. Anne Huber of Library, Pa.; two brothers: Joseph Thomas of Imperial and William Thomas of Youngstown, Ohio. Friends will be received in the Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home, 80 Morgantown St., today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Saturday, July 31, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. James A. Adair, officiating. Interment will follow in Lafaytete Memorial Park.
WOLFE, Alva J. (Barney) - Age 91 years of Perryopolis R.D. 1 died Saturday July 20, 1974 at 11 p.m. in the Connellsville Hospital. He was born June 5, 1883 in Jefferson Township the son of the late John Jacob Wofe and Virginia (Allen) Wolfe. He was a member and trustee for forty years of the Fairview United Methodist Church, The men's Bible Class of Little Redstone Presbyterian Church, fifty year member of the Morning Star Grange no. 1271. He was predeceased by a son William Nelson Wolfe in 1953, his first wife, Jesse Deyarmon Wolfe in 1918, two sisters, Eleanor Wolfe Burton in 1956 and Gertrude Wolfe McCann in 1917. He is survived by his wife Eva Lynch Wolfe and a sister, Mrs. Ira Rena (Coffman) Wolfe of Uniontown. Friends will be received in the Blair-Lowther Funeral Home, Perryopolis today 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday in the Fairview United Methodist Church from 12 noon to 2 p.m. the hour of service. Rev. Fred Gnatuk and Rev. Charles R. Fowler will officiate. Interment will follow in the LaFayette Memorial Park Cemetery, Brier Hill.
Leonidas D. Woodfill, prominent Fayette county educator and civil engineer, died at his home, 10 Rist street, Uniontown at 10:50 Tuesday morning from septic poisoning. He took sick with tonsilitis Saturday. Mr. Woodfill would have been 78 years old this coming February 28th. Mr. Woodfill taught school for 22 terms, starting in the little red schoolhouse at Farmington, Wharton township, and afterwards going to German township. He was a son of Justice of the Peace J. B. and Ellen Woodfill of German township. It will be remembered that the deceased's father lived to the age of 97 years. Recently a medal of honor was conferred upon Mr. Woodfill by the Grangers of Pennsylvania for having been a member of that order a period of 50 years. He also received a pension from the state as a retired school teacher. He was a member of the Asbury M. E. church having professed the Methodist faith at the M. E. church of Smithfield 60 years ago. Mr. Woodfill is survived by four children, Rollin W., Lenore, Mrs. Florence McClernan and Paul Woodfill. A sister, Miss Ida Woodfill, also survives. His wife, Malinda Newcomer Woodfill preceded him in death In 1910. A brother, Charles also preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held in the home in Rist street Thursday afternoon at 1: 15 oclock with the Rev. Charles J. Whitlatch officiating. Burial in Jacobs Lutheran cemetery, German township.
WOODS, Sarah M. - Age 45 years, of Hopwood - Fairchance Road, died in the Uniontown Hospital at 5:30 A. M. Saturday morning, February 11, 1961. She is survived by her husband, Hagan Woods, and a daughter, Betty; her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Dick of Phillips; and the following brothers and sisters, Samuel J. Dick of Smithfield; John Dick of Jeannette, Pa., Mrs. Louise Kendro of Cleveland, Ohio: Mrs. Margaret Hess of Phillips; Miss Elizabeth Dick of. Phillips; Robert Dick of Uniontown; Mrs. Edwina Stoner of Hopwood and Homer Dick of Hopwood. She was a member of the White Rock Methodist Church and a member of the W. S. C. S. She was predeceased by a. daughter, Joyce in 1948. Friends are being received in the Goldsboro Funeral Home, Fairchance, where services will be held Tuesday at 2 p. m. The Rev. Harold E. Williams will officiate. Interment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
YAUGER, Evarella Barnhart - a well-known resident of Edenborn, McClellandtown R.D.1. died in the Uniontown Hospital Saturday September 6, 1958 at 1:50 a.m. at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 4 days. She was a member of Church. Hill Presbyterian Church; the Lima Beamies Class; D. of A. McClellandtown Council 100; W.C.T.U., McClellandtown Firemen Ladies' Auxiliary. Her husband, James N. Yauger Sr. preceded her in death by 20 weeks. Surviving are 4 sons, Ewing, of Uniontown; Harold, Warren. O.; James N. Jr., McClellandtown R.D. 1; Robert, Uniontown; 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Jesse Barnhart of Masontown; 2 sisters. Mrs. Sadie Yauger, Masontown, Mrs. Nancy Hart, Carmichaels. Friends are being received in the Honsaker Funeral Home, Masontown, until 12 Noon Tuesday and at the Church Hill Presbyterian Church from 1 to 2 p. m., the hour of service with Rev. Thomas Conboy and Rev. John V. Berger officiating. Burial in Church Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be U. M. Barnhart, Joseph Barnhart, Martin Helmick, James Yauger, Lee Yauger, Ewing Layhue.
J. N. Yauger Of Edenborn Passes Away - James. N. Yauger, 55, of Edenborn, died yesterday morning in the Uniontown Hospital. He was born March 2, 1914, the son of the late James Sr. and Evanella Barnhart Yauger. Married to the former Virginia Whetsell, he was very active in civic affairs. He was the current president of the German Twp. Lions Club, a member of the McClellandtown Vol. Fire Dept., Eagles Order No. 828 of Uniontown, Valley Lodge No. 459 of Masontown, the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection, the Pittsburgh Canistory, a veteran of World War II, a former employe at Clyde Mine and a current employe of the Battaglini Motor Co. of LaBelle. He was former member of the McClellandtown Presbyterian Church, where he was president of the Men's Light and Law Class, and a member of the Jacobs Lutheran Church prior to his death. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three brothers, Ewing of Uniontown, Harold of Warren, Ohio, and Robert L. of Pittsburgh. Also surviving are several neices and nephews, several aunts and one uncle. Friends will be received in the Sangston Funeral Home of McClellandtown today from 3 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m., Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 10 p.m. and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the hour of service. YOUNKIN, O. R. (Pete) - A former resident and school director of German Township, died suddenly, Tuesday, October 13, 1953, in Wooster, Ohio, at the age of 55 years. He was a former and past master of the German Grange, Mr. Younkin and his family moved to Wooster in 1945. Survivors are his wife Mildred Younkin (nee Coldren); two sons, Thomas, Smithville, Ohio, William at home. Brief services will be conducted in the McIntyre Funeral Home, Wooster, Thursday at 3:30 p.m. Friends will be received after 12 noon Friday in the Honsaker Funeral Home, Masontown, where services will be held a 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Jacobs Lutheran Cemetery.
Zimmerman Rites Told - Pearl Zimmerman, 72, of 121 Maryal Drive, Whitehall, died suddenly yesterday at her home. She was a retired school teacher having taught in German Twp. for 40 years. A member of the Third Presbyterian Church in Uniontown; she was past president of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, past president of the Whitehall Women's Club. Surviving are her husband, Dr. James L. Zimmerman; a sister, Mrs. Jessie Gallatin of Smithfield. Friends will be received in the Edward E. Minerd Funeral Home, Uniontown, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. until Saturday at 11 a.m., the hour of service. Rev. Karl W. Bowman Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in Sylvan Heights Cemetry.

She was a member of the Third Presbyterian Church of Uniontown, she was a retired school teacher having taught in German Twp. for forty years.
