About Lawrence County, Pa
Lawrence County, Pennsylvania is located in Western Pa and was created on March 20, 1849 from parts
of Beaver and Mercer Counties. It was named after the USS Lawrence, Oliver Hazard Perry's original flagship at the at the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812.
The USS Lawrence was named been named for Captain James Lawrence, a naval hero.
New Castle is the county seat.

hobbie for many years now. I have lived all
my life in Lawrence County.

I get much of my information from the New Castle Public Library.
It has been a great source for me in doing my family tree and now
for hosting Lawrence County on Genealogy Trails. They have a great
periodicals department and history room and the staff are very
friendly and helpful.
