Richard Lee Boak
Oak Grove Disciples of Christ Church and Cemetery Records 1870 - 1935
Richard Lee Boak was born on March 21, 1969 in New Castle, the son of R. Richard and Lynn Miron
Boak. He was a member of the First United Brethren Church and a machine shop student at Lawrence
County Vocational-Technical Education School. He was killed in an automobile accident on April 5,
1987. In addition to his parents, he was survived by a sister, Rachelle and a brother Ryan Boak.
The funeral was conducted by Rev. Guy Hall of the First U.B. Church and burial in the Oak Grove
Christian Church Cemetery.
William Storier Boak
Oak Grove Disciples of Christ Church and Cemetery Records 1870 - 1935
William Storier Boak was born in Slippery Rock Township December of
1857. He died September 20, 1921 at his residence, at the age of
63 years. He was the husband of Anna Viola Book and father of
James Edward Boak, Miss Effie J. Boak, Jesse Boak and Bessie Boak
(Mrs. George Dean). Funeral services were held at the Oak Grove
Disciples Church with burial in the Church Cemetery on September 22, 1921.
Leonard Willard Bowden
Oak Grove Disciples of Christ Church and Cemetery Records 1870 - 1935
Leonard Willard Bowden was born near Tidioute, Warren County, Pa. on
March 8, 1856, the son of Seth and Nancy McGuire Bowden. He was a farmer by
occupation. In 1879 he was married to Miss Mary Copper, daughter of Ralph and
Catherine Stickel Copper; and a member of the Oak Grove Disciples Church.
He was the father of: Elvin C. Bowden, Ralph A. Bowden, Charles E. Bowden,
Mary Bowden Brown, Etta Bowden Hobel and Annie A. Bowden (who died in
childhood). Leonard died August 28, 1943 at his RD# 1 Ellwood City residence.
Funeral services were held at the home of his son, Elvin Bowden with Rev.
Hugh Snodgrass of the Eastbrook U.P. Church officiating, with burial
in the Oak Grove (Squirrel Hill) Cemetery.
Mary Copper Bowden
Oak Grove Disciples of Christ Church and Cemetery Records 1870 - 1935
Mary Copper Bowden was born January 1, 1852, the daughter of Ralph
adn Catherine Stickel Copper. She was the wife of Leonard W. Bowden
and mother of: Elvin C. Bowden, Ralph A. Bowden, Charles E.
Bowden, Mary Bowden Brown, Etta Bowden Hobel and Annie A. Bowden
(who died in childhood). She was a member of the Oak Grove
Disciples Church. She died August 28, 1937. The funeral service
was held at the home of her son, Elvin, with Rev. R.E. Ellenberger
of the Castlewood Alliance Church and Rev. E.F. Zook of the
Highland Heights U.B. Church officiating; burial in the Oak Grove
Christian Church Cemetery.
Mary Ellen Pence Burnett
Oak Grove Disciples of Christ Church and Cemetery Records 1870 - 1935
Mary Ellen Pence Burnett was born February 21, 1838 in Slippery
Rock Township, daughter of Joseph and Sarah Hogue Pence. She
married William Burnett and was the mother of Joseph Burnett,
Jennie Burnett Kerr and Bertha Burnett Sheets. She was a charter
member of the Oak Grove Disciples Church and for a number of years
was its janitor. She died June 10, 1923. The funeral was held at
the residence and burial took place in the Oak Grove Christian
Church Cemetery.
