Betty Joan Cameron

New Castle News, October 22, 1934

For the second time in this month death came into the home of James and Dorothy Cameron, 1806 Wilsom Avenue, when their daughter, Betty Joan died in the New Castle hospital Sunday, October 21, at 5:30 a.m after a short illness.

On Saturday, October 7, a two year old daughter, Ruth Virginia died.

Betty Joan was born in this city December 28, 1933.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. from the home with interment in Graceland Cemetery.



Dorothy Cameron

New Castle News, May 20, 1998

A service will be conducted friday for Dorothy J. Dock Cameron, 89, who died in the evening of May 18, 1998 in Jameson Hospital.

Born in Rochester, Pa on Nov. 4, 1908, she was the daughter of John Henry Dock and Nancy Melissa Gallagher Dock Cowan.

She married James Byron Cameron on Dec. 29, 1925. He died on Dec. 29, 1976. In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by two daughters, Betty Joan Cameron and Ruth Virginia Cameron; and two brothers, Arthur Gallagher and Jack Cowan. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Ed and Don CeCarbo Funeral Home, 941 S. Mill.



James B. Cameron

New Castle News, December 29, 1976

James B. Cameron, 70, of 518 Croton Ave., died at 12:55 a.m. Dec. 29, 1976 in St. Francis Hospital after an illness.

He was born in New Castle on Feb. 27, 1906 to the late James H. and Charlotte Stuart Cameron Harkless. He was retired from the Mesta Machine Co. where he was a locomotive operator.He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jean Dock, whom he married Sept. 16, 1925;

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Richard; a sister, Mrs. Glenora Fleeger and two daughters, Ruth and Betty.



Ruth Virginia Cameron

New Castle News, October 8, 1934

Ruth Virginia, the two year old daughter of James B. and Dorothy Jean Cameron died at the home, 1806 Wilson Avenue, Sunday, Oct. 7, at 11 p.m. following a weeks illness. The little one was born in New castle, November 7, 1932 and is survived by her parents.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the home and interment will be made in Graceland Cemetery.



Jack H. Cowan

New Castle News, December 22, 1979

Jack H. Cowan, 67, of 920 Winslow Ave., died at 8:30 a.m., Dec. 22, 1979 at his residence. He had been disabled for the past 10 years as a result of an automobile accident.

Mr. Cowan was born Nov. 26, 1912 in Ellwood City to the late James and Nancy Gallagher Cowan. He was marrired March 8, 1969 to the former Angeline Forletta, who survives. A WWII U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Cowan was retired on a disability from Mesta Machine Company where he had been a guard.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Jean Cameron of New Castle. He was preceded in death by one brother, Arthur.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and Tuesday at Edward A. and Donald G. DeCarbo Funeral Home, corner of South Mill and Lutton streets. A service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home will be conducted by the Rev. R. E. Williams of the First Free Methodist Church, Arlington Avenue. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.



Fall Is Fatal To James Cowan

Dies In Hospital After Accident

New Castle News, February 25, 1956

James Cowan, Aged 77, of 518 Croton Ave. died in the New Castle Hospital at 8:10 p.m., Friday as a result of injuries suffered in a fall down his home stairs a short while previous.

Mr. Cowan was descending the stairs when in some manner he slipped and plunged down eight of the steps. He was moved to the New Caslte Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

Coroner John A. Meehan, Jr. is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mr. Cowan's fall. An autopsy is is being performed today, to determine the exact cause of death which is believed to be the result of a cerebral concussion.

Mr. Cowan was born in Butler County, March 18, 1878, and resided some years in Detroit. He served for six years as a maintenance man at the local United Engineering and Foundry Co. and prior to that, worked for Carnegie-Illinois Steel Co. for 25 years.

Mr. Cowan was married to Nancy Gallagher Cowan for 37 years

Surviving, are his widow, Mrs. Nancy Cowan; the children, Wesley Cowan, Pittsburgh; Otto Cowan, Pittsburgh; A. R. Gallagher, this city; Mrs. jean Cameron, this city; Jack Cowan, this city; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Margaret Davis, Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the W. F. DeCarbo Funeral Home, Cunningham at Lutton with Samuel C. Baker and Rev. Jack Allison in charge. Interment will be in Graceland cemetery.
