Mrs. Asa Wardan
(contributed [article])The death of Mrs. Asa Wardan who died at her home on April 20, 1931, removed from Trucksville one of its most esteemed and oldest residents and also the oldest living member of Trucksville Methodist Episcopal church. She had resided at Trucksville forty-four years. She was born at Pike's Creek on November 2, 1849, the daughter of Jonah R. and Mary Ann Evans Roberts. On October 10, 1872, she was married to Asa Wardan by Rev. F. A. King. Three children blessed their union, Frances Lulu, deceased, John R. and Ella, who survive. Her husband preceded her in death three years. Besides her children two grandchildren, Mrs. Arlene Bessmer of Atlanta, Ga., and Miss Lenora C. Wardan of Trucksville survive.

Mrs. Wardan was the last member of eight children, her sister, Mrs. Wilkinson having died fifteen months ago. Mrs. Wardan lived long and industriously, helpfully and serviceably through the years, finding opportunity for the use of her ability and privileges to dispense gladness and bountiful hospitality to many with who she came in contact. As wife and mother caring for her husband and children she made the home a place of cheer and happiness and with her neighbors and friends with whom she associated there was manifested the excellency of a pleasing personality. This became possible because early in life she became a follower of Jesus Christ, joined Trucksville M. E. church nearly forth years ago, and always continued a worthy member and faithful Christian, giving her time and energy to the church.

Funeral services were held at her late home on Thursday afternoon, April 23, in charge of Rev. J. L. Thomas, former pastor, assisted by Rev. J. R. Austin, a former pastor and friend of the family. Both pastors paid a merited tribute to the life of the deceased. During the services, Miss Roxie Smith sang Face to Face. Mrs. Newhart and Miss Smith sang Waiting, and Rev. Mr. Auston read No Burdens Allowed to Pass Through, special favorites of the deceased. The following acted as pall bearers, Bruce Long, Francis McCarty, Frank Anstett, Frank Lauderbaugh, Fred Boote, and Nesbitt Sutliff. Flower carriers were J. B. Rice, William Hudson, Oliver Williams, and B. F. Merrel. Burial was in Wardan cemetery.
