Lake, Sarah Mrs. Sarah Lake, who was widely known in Shamokin died at her home, Sixth and Independence streets, Thursday morning at the ripe old age of 86 years after an illness of ten days from the grip. The funeral will occur from the late home at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Lake is survived by five children, who are Withington and Benjamine Lake, Mrs. Bruce, Mrs. Vangasken and Mrs. Adams. Mrs. Lake was one of Shamoin's oldest residents and together with her husband, the late Squire David Lake, watched the progress of the town from its earliest infancy and her husband was first justice of the peace ever commissioned in Shamokin. Mrs. Lake was born on May 25, 1808 and was very popular among her acquaintances. Her late husband David Lake was one of the first mail agents on the Shamokin Division and was well known to most of our old citizens, and a great many relatives are living in all parts of the county. Long, Geo. On Friday the 21st inst., suddenly, Mr. Geo. Long, of Augusta township, aged 73 years. Mr. Long, who was an industrious and respectable farmer, and an excellent citizen, had been in town during the afternoon of the day, with marketing. He was discovered on his road home, near his own residence, a lifeless corpse in his wagon, his horses proceeding homeward at a slow pace, as if nothing had occurred. Appoplexy is supposed to have been the cause of his death. He leaves a family and a large circle of friends and relatives to mourn over their sudden bereavement.
