Anthony C. "Tony" LaMantia, 53, of Bolivar died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1986 at St. Clair Memorial Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Jan. 14, 1934, a son of the late Paul and Nancy (Lanzarotta) LaMantia. He was owner and operator of LaMantia Auto Products Co. Bolivar. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Bolivar. He was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy. He is survived by four brothers, Paul Jr. of New Florence, Andrew of Bolivar and Joseph D. and Samuel P both at home; two sisters, Marie (Mrs Robert) Cunningham of Robinson, and Margaret (Mrs. Paul) Saxton of Bolivar. Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at St. Mary's church. Arrangements by J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home, Bolivar. Burial was in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville.

LEAR -Benjamin H. Lear 79 of Bolivar died Monday Nov. 15, 1993 at home. Mr Lear was born April 13, 1914 in Fairfield Twp., Westmoreland County son of Elmer and Molly Lear. He was a retired dispatcher for the Penn Central Railroad and a member of the First Church of Christ, West Bolivar. Survivors include his wife Helen Brett Lear; these children, Mrs. Carmen (Lorraine) Carbone, Greensburg, H. Duane, Blasdell N.Y. and Ronald L., Bolivar; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; a great great grandson. Also surviving are a sister and four brothers, Margaret Gamble and Earl, both of Bolivar, Samuel of Linesville, N.Y. and Vince and Robert, both of Bolivar RD 1. His brothers Frank, William, Clyde, Alvin and Donald and his sisters Florence, Claire "Sis" Busch and Hazel Schroyer preceded him in death. Services were held Thursday at McCracken Funeral Home, Bolivar, Rev. Richard Lear officiating. Interment was in Bethel Cemetery, Clyde. Memorial donations were suggested to the American Cancer Society.

She was a member of Robinson, Church of the Brethern and Ladies Auxiliary to Duane Boring VFW Post 9310, Robinson. She was past present of County District 26 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary to Charles Sutton American Legion Post 128, Bolivar, Seward Women's Club and Laurel Valley Senior Citizens. She was preceded in death by her husband Clyde H. Lear; a granddaughter, Sheila Lear; two sisters, Beatrice Gibson and Hilda Rodkey; and three brothers, Duane, Michael and Earl. She is survived by two sons, Charles R. of Batavia, N.Y. and Paul E. of Robinson; a daughter, Shirley (Mrs. Jack) Rosenberger, of Indianapolis, Ind.; 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; five sisters, Florence Boring and Alberta Donahue, both of Robinson; Pauline Leary of New Florence RD 1; Sylvia Kennison of Smithton and Grace Howsare of Bedford. Robert G. Lear 75 of Bolivar RD 1 died Friday March 9, 2001 at the Bethlen Home, Ligonier. He was born Aug. 10, 1925 in Bolivar a son of the late Elmer Raymond and Mary Katherine "Molly" (West) Lear. He was a retired employee of the maintenance department of Ligonier Valley School District, having worked as a custodian at the Bolivar and Laurel Valley elementary schools. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II having served aboard the USS Earl K . Olsen. He was a member of Charles Sutton American Legion Post 128, Bolivar, and Duane Boring VFW Post 9310, Robinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife. Tillie Louise (Fulcomer) Lear; eight brothers, Clyde, Bill, Frank, Alvin, Ben, Sam, Don and Earl and three sisters, Hazel, Florence and Edith. LEAR - Vincent R. 80 of Bolivar died Tuesday Dec. 31, 2002 in Beacon Manor, Indiana. He was born Nov. 11, 1922 in Fairfield Twp. a son of the Late Elmer R. and Mary C. "Molly" West Lear. Prior to his retirement he had been employed by the former Haws Refractories of Johnstown and the Garfield Refractories in Robinson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Bolivar First Church of Christ and Bolivar American Legion # 128. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dorothy Reighard Lear; a daughter, Mrs. James (Lisa Ann) Tubay of Lancaster, Pa. ; two sons, Wesley W. (and his wife Beth Ann) Lear of Blairsville; and Russell E. Lear of Doylestown, Pa.; three grandchildren, Joseph and Heath Lear; and Monica Tubay; and a sister, Margaret J. :Peg" Gamble of Bolivar. Dennis E. Lichtenfels 47 of Robinson died Tuesday Nov. 12, 2002 at the Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. He was born March 16, 1955 in Johnstown the son of Lester E. Lichtenfels of Robinson and the late Gloria J. (Mulligan) Lichtenfels. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of Charles Sutton American Legion Post 128 of Bolivar a social member of Duane Boring VFW Post 9310 of Robinson, member of Robinson Rod and Gun Club and Teamsters Local No. 926. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He liked to play spades with his family and was a dedicated Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Panthers fan. In addition to his father, he is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Yeager Lichtenfels; devoted father of Robert S. married to Shannon Brendlinger, Dustin S. and Jeffrey D. all of Robinson; Also two grandsons, Bryce T. and Kole R.; brother of Linda Shetler wife of Robert of Salisbury, Md. Kenneth, married to Linda Krouse of Robinson, Bonnie Brown wife of Roger, of Gas Center, and Corey of Robinson; and his trusted dog, Virgil. Friends will be received today from 1p.m. till the time of service at 2 p.m. at the Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence with the Rev. Allyn K. Giuffre officiating. Clair C. Long 81 of Bolivar RD 1 died March 18, 2000 at Latrobe Area Hospital. Mr Long was born Feb. 1, 1919 in Fairfield Twp. , son of the late William and Mae McDermott Long. Mr Long worked as a contractor for the Civil Service for the U.S. government for 20 years. He was a member of the Ligonier Church of Christ. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. Survivors include sisters, Ellen Harrover, Trafford and Nelle Miller, Cantwell, Alaska; brother, Walter Krouse and wife Anna, Greencastle; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Erna Foster, Vivian Marsh, Cora Schermith and Edna Long; and brothers, Stewart, Melville, William and Sidney Long. Obituary

Margery Harper Lynn, aged 78 years, wife of C.S. Lynn of Ruffsdale, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herman C. Hepler, corner Spring Street and Edwin Avenue, this place, late last evening, after an illness of three weeks, while visiting with her daughter. She was a faithful member of the Christ Reformed Church of Ruffsdale of which church she had been a member for nearly 50 years. Mrs. Lynn was well known, being one of the oldest residents of the community, and highly respected by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, C.S. Lynn, and seven sons and daughters; Swain Lynn, Wellsville, Ohio; Mrs. Sadie Latta, Irwin; Mrs. Ethel Carvey, Donora; Mrs. Allie Porter and Mrs. Grace Hepler, both of Scottdale; Samuel H. Lynn, Ruffsdale, and William E. Lynn, Wilkinsburg. Mrs. Lynn was the eldest child of the late Samuel and Sarah Harper of Flatwoods, in which family there were nine children. Two brothers survive, Hilliam H. Harper, Dickerson Run; and Spraks Harper, Orville, Ohio. One brother, Swain Harper, died in Connellsville just one week ago. Funeral arrangements will be announced later, pending the arrival of the family.

Ray Luker died Friday morning, April 10, 1981 in Okeene, OK. Ray was cremated in Oklahoma City on Monday. There will be a Memorial Service at the Sisson Funeral Chapel, Thursday, April 16 at 11:30 a.m. the service will be conducted by Eddie Sisson and the public and friends are invited. Ray was born in Huff, Pa. July 30, 1909 and lived in Okeene for the past several years. Mrs McClarren a member of Community Bible Church, West Bolivar, was born Christmas Day 1919 in Fairfield Twp., Westmoreland County, daughter of the late William Charles and Amelia Clark Baird. She enjoyed gardening. Surviving are her children Mrs. Glenn (Sandra Pearl) Syphrit, Mrs Rossie (Peggy) Lichtenfels and Mrs Dennis (Kendra) Shaffer, all of Robinson, and Mrs Jesse (Mary) McGarvey, Blairsville. She was a member of Bolivar Presbyterian Church and auxiliary to New Florence Post 307 American Legion. Mrs McCreery was preceded in death by husband Ross C. McCreery; sons Harry, Thomas and Eugene; daughter Anna Grace; and grandson Samuel Galbraith; also two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by daughter, Mrs. Clara Mae Shearer-Galbraith of New Florence RD 1; also six grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. 1913 - Killed In Mine

Marshall McDermott is instantly Killed by a Fall of Rock While at Work in the Mine of the Lacolle Coal Company this Forenoon. Marshall McDermott aged 36 years son of the late Tipton B. and Mrs. Maria McDermott was instantly killed by a fall of rock while at work in the mine of the Lacolle Coal Mining Company at this place about 9 o'clock this forenoon. His head was crushed beyond recognition and one of his legs broken. The remains were brought to Vann's morgue and prepared for burial. Besides his mother he is survived by his widow and six children also by one brother, Charles of Bolivar and three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Forsythe and Mrs. Wm. Long of West Bolivar and Mrs. Robert Bennie of Chicago. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made but it will likely be on Sunday.

Ronald E. McDermott 67 of Bonita Springs, Fla. and New Florence died Sunday Jan. 9, 1994 at North Collier Hospital, Naples, Fla. He was born April 4, 1926 in Bolivar a son of the late Charles and Edna Jane (Yeager) McDermott. He was a member of the New Florence United Methodist Church. He operated a barber shop in New Florence for 35 years. He was a veteran of world War II. He was a member of Hood-Vanatt American Legion Post 307 New Florence; Johnstown Music Society, Local 41 Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 1782 Naples, Fla. and Acacia Lodge 355, F&AM, Blairsville. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Jack McDermott. He is survived by his wife Marilyn B. (Rhen) McDermott; a brother, Charles of Robinson; and a sister Patricia Wagner of Youngstown, Ohio.Friends were received at the Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home. Leonard W. McIntire 54 of Black Lick died Tuesday March 16, 1999 at Latrobe Area Hospital. Mr. McIntire was born May 7, 1944 in Bolivar son of the late Alvie and Flora Boring McIntire. He was a member of the Black Lick Free Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife Clarie; children Lisa, Florida, Becky and Richard, Pittsburgh, and Mary, Leonard Jr., Marie, David, Alvin and Tesia, Black Lick; sisters Norma Rodkey, Clyde, Roberta Baird, New Florence and Emma, Warren, Ohio. Also surviving are six grandchildren. His brother Robert and his sister Catherine McGinnis preceded him in death. Rev. Fred Craig will officiate at services today at 11 a.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home, Blairsville, with interment in Germany Lutheran Cemetery, West Wheatfield Twp.

Harold E. McKinney, 70, New Florence died July 23, 2003 at Memorial Medical Center. Born Nov. 30, 1932 in New Florence, he was the son of the late William and Thelma Shirley, McKinney. A proud union supporter, he was a member of UNWA District 2 Local 1257 and AFL-CIO United Steelworkers. An Army veteran of the Korean War, Mr. McKinney was a member of Duane Boring Post 9310, veterans of Foreign Wars, Robinson and an avid hunter and football fan with a special interest in United High School and Penn State teams. He enjoyed watching his grandsons play baseball and was a lifelong donor of blood for the American Red Cross. He was preceded in death by his twin sons, William and Henry; brothers, Sherman "Billy" and John; sisters, Irene and Mary Burkley; an old faithful pal, "Rusty". He was deeply devoted to his wife the former Emily M. St. Clair, whom he married Dec. 30, 1955. Also survived by children Harold L. married to Bambi Johns, Enola, and Ann wife of John Rougeaux, Indiana; grandsons, Patrick and Brandon McKinney, Blairsville and John and Jake Rougeaux, Indiana; step grandson, Mark Crummett, Blough. Also sisters and brothers Vivian 'Betty' Shaftic and Sondra Boring, Bolivar; George, twin Harry and Nancy Silk, New Florence; Paul, Robinson; Clifford, Lockport; Sally Gademsey, Blairsville; sister-in-law Claudia Shoenfelt, Blairsville, 'best friend' Buddy. Services were held Sunday at Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence with Barry Poglein officiating. Interment was in Isabelle Cemetery. Military graveside rites were by local veterans organizations. Bolivar Native Fatally Injured in Road Crash

A native of Bolivar died Saturday of injuries received in a traffic accident in Kittanning. The dead woman is Mrs. Maude A. McMahon 45, wife of William (Peter William) McMahon, Natrona. The mishap occurred last Thursday at 8:30 p.m. when the light auto in which Mrs. McMahon was a passenger was struck by a heavy truck. Her husband was injured in the crash. Mrs. McMahon was born in Bolivar, Aug 20, 1905 a daughter of Lewis G. James and the late Mrs. James. She had lived in the Natrona area for the past 22 years.

A Natrona woman injured with her husband when their light car was demolished by a semi-trailer truck at the interection of Highways 28 and 422 west of Kittanning Thursday, today was in critical condition in Armstrong County General Hospital. Mrs. William P. (Peter William) McMahon of River avenue Natrona was still unconscious with critical injuries received in the accident. Her husband, driver of their British built Hillman car, was discharged from the hospital after he was a patient there for a day. The couple was returning from Brookville, where they went for a drive to see the autumn color in the Cook Forest area on Mr. McMahon's day off from work in Brackenridge plant of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. The McMahon's were making a left turn into Highway 422 when their car was hit by an approaching fuel truck, driven by Charles W. Smith 24 of Kutztown, PA. Mrs McMahon this morning was reported still unconscious. She is known to have a fractured nose, dislocated wrist and severe cuts of the eye, forehead, arms and legs. Her condition thus far has not yet permitted x-Ray examination. Mr McMahon who is now at the home of his only son Grant in West Seventh avenue Tarentum received three fractured ribs and cuts on his face, elbows and legs. Their small sedan was completely demolished by the impact with the semi-trailer type truck.

Mrs. Dorothy Ann Miller, aged 20 years , of 151 N. Morrow street, died at the Latrobe Hospital Wednesday August 12, at 8:10 o'clock after an operation for a goiter. She had been ill for four months. Mrs. Miller was born August 6, 1916 (wrong date should be Aug 20) at Waterman, Pa. the daughter of Charles W. Black and LuLu Uncapher Black now of Socialville. She is survived by her parents, her husband and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. June Noenberg, Scranton; Mrs. Ethel Gower, Clarksville; Misses Clarice, Betty and Ruth of Socialville. Walter of Revloc, Merle of Scranton and Ernest at home. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 at the parents home at Socialville. Mrs. Miller was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Blairsville, but in the absence of her pastor, Rev. C. P. Salladay, the Rev. Jas. C. Stuart, pastor of the First Presbyterian church had charge of the services. Burial was made in Blairsville cemetery.

George Muir who was killed in the mines as noted in these columns last week was buried Sunday afternoon. Funeral service was held in the Church of Christ, West Bolivar, conducted by Walter Muir, of Blairsville. Mr. Muir was a son of the late George and Janet Muir and was born in Fairfield Twp. in 1860. He was one of a family of twelve children, seven of whom survive him as follows: Walter, Alex, Robert, William and Mrs. Fred Foust all of Fairfield Twp. James of Wallaceton, Clearfield County and Mrs. John W. Luther of Pittsburgh. He is also survived by four children, Mrs. Frank Henderson of Fairfield Twp., Flossie, Belle and Alex at home. Mr. Muir was a member of the Church of Christ, the Junior Order of United American Mechanics, the Patriotic Order Sons of America, and took an active interest in all, as well as anything that was for the wellfare of the community.

He is survived by her husband Arthur 'Butch' Muir ; six daughters, Linda (Mrs. Matthew) Machak of Seward; Jane (Mrs. Donald) Deemer of Bolivar; Helen (Mrs. Robert) Hollen of Johnstown; Carol (Mrs. Robert) Frain of West Bolivar; Diana (Mrs. William) McGinnis of New Florence RD 2 and Nancy (Mrs. William) Arford of Robinson; 16 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Marie Henderson of West Bolivar;Mrs. Ruth Mundorff of Bolivar RD 1; and Mrs. Gladys Spaugy of Anchorage, Alaska; and three brothers, Joseph 'Buss' Betts of Ligonier; Robert Betts of West Bolivar; and Merlin T Betts of St. Louis, MO. Funeral Services were held Monday at First Church of Christ, West Bolivar with the Rev. Richard Lear officiating. Arrangements by Edward J. Speidel Funeral Home, Bolivar. burial was in Westview Cemetery.

Ralph B. Muir, 88 of Bolivar RD 1 died unexpectedly Oct. 10, 1982 at his home where he resided 57 years. Born Aug. 5, 1894 in Fairfield Twp. he was son of the late David C. and Lydia A. West Muir. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie L. Smith Muir. He was a retired farmer and night watchman. Surviving are three children, Boyd L. of Ligonier RD 1, Eugene of New Florence RD 1 and Mrs. Henry I. (Hazel) Palmer of Bolivar RD 1; seven grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in Owen Wolford Funeral Home, Ligonier. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. William H. Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Palmer Cemetery.

Jack Mundorff 73, Bolivar RD 1 died Sunday Dec. 27, 1992 at Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh. The son of John and Margaret Yeager Mundorff he was born March 29, 1919 in Fairfield Twp. Mr Mundorff was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bolivar. Prior to his retirement he had been employed as a coal miner for Florence Mining. Surviving are his wife Katherine Gross Mundorff; these children, Mrs. Bruce (Helen) Faith, Blairsville RD 1; Bruce C., Mohawk N.Y., John C, Bolivar RD 1, Keith A, York; and Scott C., Mount Joy; eight grandchildren and these brothers and sisters Virginia Kinsey, New Florence; Susan Zufall, St. Petersburg, Fla. and David 'Fritz', Bolivar RD 1. He was preceded in death by a son Matthew Mundorff and a brother Paul Mundorff. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 today in the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home, Bolivar where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bolivar, with the Rev. Simeon Marro. O. Carm., as celebrant. Interment will follow in Bolivar Westview Cemetery.

Mr Mundorff was a retired carpenter. Surviving are these children; Virginia Kinzey, New Florence; Jack and David 'Fritz' both of Bolivar; Susan Zufall, St. Petersburg, Fla. ; 16 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maggie M. Yeager Mundorff; a son Paul; one grandson; two brothers and four sisters. Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home , New Florence, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Rev. Kenneth Neal will officiate and interment will be in West View Cemetery.

Services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Church of Christ, Bolivar with the Rev. Charles Owston officiating. Interment will be in Ft. Palmer Cemetery.
