Newhouse, Alfred Charles

Alfred Charles Newhouse aged 57, a Pennsylvania Railroad brakeman died unexpectedly at 6:30 o'clock yesterday morning in his home at 189 Morewood Ave. Blairsville. Dr. E. L. Fleming County coroner said death resulted from a heart attack. He had been employed by the railroad company for a number of years. The deceased was born in Jacksonville, Jan. 15, 1890, a son of John and Cora (Aultman) Newhouse. Mr. Newhouse was a member of the Blairsville Lutheran Church and of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen. Surviving are his widow, the former LaVerne Spiess, and three children: Mrs. Eleanor Thomas, Salem, O., and Mrs. Marion Clark and Mrs. Mildred Watson both of Blairsville. He was a brother of Harry N. and Edward Newhouse, both of Blairsville and Robert, Los Angeles, Cal., Mrs. C. R. Allison, Canton, O., and Mrs. Donald Alonzo, Jeannette. Five grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 o;clock Wednesday afternoon in the Newhouse home by Rev. James Frank. Interment in Blairsville cemetery, under direction of the Ferguson Funeral Home, Blairsville.


Newhouse, Edward E.

Nov. 17, 1964 - Indiana County Historical Society

EDWARD E. NEWHOUSE, 64 of 124 South Brady Street Blairsville passed away Tuesday November 17, 1964 in the Latrobe Hospital. A son of John and Cora Altman Newhouse he was born Dec. 17, 1899 in Westmoreland County. He was the husband of Leah McClain Newhouse who survives. A retired boilermaker for the Pennsylvania Railroad Company Mr. Newhouse was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church of Blairsville and the following organizations: I00F 436 Blairsville; BPOE 406 Blairsville; William Penn Club of Greensburg, PA.; Veterans Employee Association of the Conemaugh Division P. R. R. In addition to his wife mentioned above he is also survived by one brother, Robert Newhouse, Los Angeles, California and one sister Mrs. Don (Marie) Alonzo, Jeannette. Friends are being received at the Richard K. Shoemaker Funeral Home Blairsville where services will be conducted on Thursday at 2 p.m. the Rev. J. M. Robbins will officiate and interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery.


Newhouse, Mrs. Harry

Accident Results Fatally - Indiana County Historical Society, Indiana, PA

Mrs. Newhouse aged 25 years, wife of Harry Newhouse, of Cokeville, died on January 15th as the result of injuries in an automobile accident which occurred several weeks ago. Her husband and five children survive her. Burial was made Tuesday in the Blairsville cemetery.

Harry Albert Newhouse passed away April 9, at his home, 260 Railroad Avenue, Blairsville. A son of John and Cora Altman Newhouse, born April 19, 1892, in Lewisville, PA the deceased had been a resident of Blairsville his entire life time. A conductor on the Pennsylvania Railroad, he had been a member of the Brotherhood of Trainmen. Surviving are his wife, Hulda Reed Newhouse and four daughters, Mrs. Helen Cowan, Mrs. Violet Iscrupe of Blairsville; Mrs. Sara Wilson, Freedom, and Mrs. Florence Yoh, Bethel, PA; Two step-daughters, Dorothy Hammer, Cleveland, Ohio, and Mary Tio, Blairsville; three step-sons. Albert Reed, Arlington, VA;Eugene Held, Cleveland, Ohio;Charles Held, Neward, N. J. ; Two brothers, Edward of Blairsville and Robert of California;and two sisters, Mrs. Marie Alonzo, Glassport, and Mrs. Ethel Allison, Canton, Ohio. Friends will be received at the Shoemaker Funeral home until 2:30 p.m. Monday April 12 when services will be conducted there by the Rev. John N. Hempstead. Interment will follow in the Blairsville cemetery.


Newhouse, Leah

Leah Elizabeth McClain Newhouse 95 of Greensburg, formerly of Blairsville died Monday Dec. 6, 1999 at the Loyalhanna Care Center in Latrobe. Born June 7, 1904 in Blairsville she was the daughter of Walter R. and Laura M. Kelly McClain. She lived most of her life in Blairsville, where she was a member of the Hebron Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Thelma Mae Rebekah Lodge 253. Prior to her retirement she was an employee of Bell Telephone. Surviving are a sister Mrs. Charlotte Lowman, Greensburg and a nephew Edward A. Lowman, Orlando, Fla. She was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, Edward E. Newhouse, who died in 1964 and a brother Roy McClain. Friends will be received at the Richard L. Shoemaker Funeral Home in Blairsville on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the time of services with the Rev. Paul L. Carter officiating. Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery.


Nixon, Daniel M.

Survivor of sinking of the USS Indianapolis

Daniel M. Nixon 80 of Johnstown died Thursday May 13, at Conemaugh Hospital. Mr Nixon was born Sept. 15, 1923 in Robinson, West Wheatfield Twp. son of the late Walter and Mary Nixon. He retired from Ford Motor Corp. in Ohio, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He survived the sinking of the USS Indianapolis, and was a member of the USS Indianapolis CA-35 Survivor Organization. He was a member of Grace Assembly of God. He was preceded in death by his First wife, Mallory and his brothers Irvin, John, Clark and David, his twin. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Joann Antal Nixon; brothers and sisters Wilson, Erie, Ray, Armagh, Walter, Florida, Orea Busch, Robinson,and Jean Wise, Florida; mother-in-law Anna Antal and brother-in-law Francis Antal. Services were held Monday at Grace Church, with interment in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown.


Nixon, John P.

John P. Nixon 68 of Erie died Saturday Sept. 26, 1987 at Erie County Geriatrics Center. He was born March 2, 1919 in Robinson, a son of Mary (Miller) Nixon of Robinson and the late Walter Nixon. He was a US Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Margaret A (Warner) Nixon; two sisters, Orea (Mrs. Maxwell) Busch of Robinson and Jean (Mrs John) Wise of Ridgecrest, Calif.; six brothers, Wilson of Texas; Clark of New Florence; Daniel of Johnstown; David and Ray both of Robinson; and Thomas of Edison, N. J.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Tuesday with the Rev. Dr. Lewis Evans officiating. Arrangements by Francis V. Kloecker Funeral home. Burial was in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Mary E. Nixon 97 of Robinson died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1996 in the Indian Haven Nursing Home in Indiana. Born April 21, 1898 in Fairfield, Twp. Westmoreland County; she was the daughter of William and Annie E. Thomas Miller. She was a member of the Robinson Evangelical United Methodist Church. Surviving are these children: Wilson A. Erie; Clark, New Florence; David, Bethlen Home, Ligonier; Daniel, Johnstown; Ray , Robinson; Walter L., Sun City, Fla.; Orea Busch, Robinson, and Jean Wise, Parrish, Fla; 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter C. Nixon who died Aug. 5, 1979; two sons, John and Irvin Nixon and one granddaughter, Mallory Friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home in New Florence where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Kenneth Custer will officiate and interment will be in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery.


Nixon, Nancy Diane

Nancy Diane Nixon 42, of McConnellsburg formerly of Robinson died March 10, 1999 at Hershey Medical Center. She was born April 26, 1956 in Johnstown a daughter of David M. and Alice G (Henderson) Nixon. She graduated in 1977 from ARIN Intermediate School. She won many medals in Special Olympics, and she enjoyed trains. In addition to her father she was preceded in death by grandparents Hillis L Henderson and Walter C. and Mary E. Nixon; Step grandmother Ethel M. Reeder and a great nephew, Anthony Custer. She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Alice G and Kenneth Reeder both of McConnellsburg; a sister Patricia Kay Strickler of Robinson; two brothers David L. Nixon of New Florence RD 2 and Terry L Nixon of Robinson and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and grandparents Ethel and Alvin Rosensteel. Funeral service was held Saturday at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence with the Rev. Dwayne Burfield officiating. Burial was in Germany Lutheran Cemetery.

Oscar Clark Nixon 76 of New Florence died Wednesday Feb. 11, 1998 at Lee Hospital Johnstown. Mr Nixon was born Oct. 12, 1921 in Robinson, West Wheatfield Twp. son of the late Walter and Mary Miller Nixon. He was a retired employee of Quaker Sales Corp. Johnstown and a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Robinson. He also was a World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife Helen E. Hrabovssky Nixon; three children, Ronald L. Johnstown, Mrs. James (Catherine) Prisk, Ebensburg and Mrs. Edward (Cynthia) Naylor, Seward; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; also surviving are seven brothers and sisters, Wilson, Erie; David, Bethlen Home, Ligonier; Daniel, Johnstown; Ray, and Orea Busch both of Robinson; Walter, Sun City, Fla.; and Jean Wise, Florida. His brother John preceded him in death. Services were held Saturday at Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, Rev. Allyn Giuffre officiating. Interment was in Armagh Cemetery.

NIXON - Walter C. 86 Robinson died Aug. 5, 1979 at Indian Haven, Indiana. Born May 18, 1893 in Clymer son of late Charles and Mary Jane (Henderson) Nixon. Survived by widow former Mary E. Miller, and these children: Wilson, Texas; John, Erie; Clark, New Florence; Dan, Akron, Ohio; Dave and Ray both of Robinson; Walter T. New Jersey; Mrs. Orea Busch, Robinson; and Mrs. Jean Wise, Ridgecrest, Calif.; also 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Retired from Triangle Clay Products, Johnstown. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, where service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Interment Mount Tabor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Indiana Chapter, Easter Seal Society for Crippled Children and Adults.
