George Thomas DANS, a business man of this city for the past three decades and well known to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, died at about 11 o’clock last evening, at his residence, 100 Cottage street. Death was the result of Bright’s disease and its complication and came after the deceased had been confined to his bed but a short week, although in failing health for several months past. About one month ago Mr. Dans was forced to undergo the amputation of one finger on account of a splinter which had become imbedded therein and was causing trouble, and since the operation he had not been so well as previously.
Mr. Dans was born in Providence, on July 5, 1846, and was therefore in the 55th year of his age. He early learned the drug business and was employed by one or more of the larger stores in Providence. He came to this city about 30 years ago and opened a store in the Dorrance building, at the corner of Main and North Main streets for the retail sale of drugs and medicine. He retained his business in that place for upwards of a quarter of a century, retiring some seven years wince to a small store which he had built adjacent to his residence on Cottage street. There he continued in business up to his death. He leaves one son and one daughter. [Pawtucket Times, Aug 30, 1900, Submitted by Karen Seeman]
