Jessie
Martin Blackville, Feb. 23 - Quite a gloom of
sadness was cast over the people of the town last Friday morning
because of the death of Miss Jessie Martin, daughter of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Willis Martin, and one of Baclkville's best known citizens.
Miss Martin was taken sick about a week before her death, but it was
not thought at first that her condition was so grave. Her home was
always accessible to her acquaintances and her open honest greeting
ever made the visitor feel her welcome, sincere and earnest. Her
kindness and benevolence linger in the hearts of all classes. She
was true to every duty and to every trust. She lived a Christian
life and died in the Christian faith. The body was laid to rest
Saturday afternoon at the local cemetery, funeral services being
conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Mr. Miller of the Baptist church,
among a concourse of sorrowing friend and relatives. She is survived
by two sisters, Miss Hattie Martin and Mrs. C. R. Boylston, of
Blackville, and three brothers, R. S. Marin of Williston, J. Willie
Martin of Salley and C. J. Martin of Blackwille. (The State February
