Thomas V. Jaskiewicz - NIANTIC, Conn. - Thomas V. Jaskiewicz, 64, died Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in Waterford, Conn. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thurday at Copeland Funeral Home, Beaufort. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Parris Island Chapel. Interment, with military honors, will be at Beaufort National Cemetery. Mr. Jaskiewicz was born Feb. 6, 1937, in Willimantic, Conn., a son of Marjorie De'Lia Jaskiewicz. He married Sheila Anderson on Parris Island. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He earned the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Naval Unit Citation, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal with five stars, Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnamese Service Medal with two stars. He also earned the Rifle and Pistol Sharpshooter Badges. He was retired from the Connecticut Department of Corrections, for which he worked as a correction officer at Gates Correctional Institution in Niantic. He earned the department's Circle of Merit in 1994, Governor's Community Service Award in 1997 and a 10-Year Certificate of Achievement. He was a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus and served two years as a Grand Knight in Charleston. He was a past post commander in the Niantic American Legion, a lifetime member of the Elks Club in Portsmouth, N.H., a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Niantic, a member of Beaufort AMVETS and Niantic Lions Club. Surviving are his wife of Niantic; three sons, Thomas and Timothy of Beaufort and Garland of Niantic; two daughters, Tereasa and Mary of Beaufort; five brothers, Charles Jaskiewicz of Jewett City, Conn., Anthony Jaskiewicz of Southington, Conn., Donald Jaskiewicz of Laughlin, Nev., Richard Jaskiewicz of Tucson, Ariz. and Joseph Jaskiewicz of Montville, Conn.; a sister, Regina Westner of Montville; and eight grandchildren. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Caroline Hospice, 1110 13th St., Port Royal, SC 29935. (Beaufort Gazette – no date ) Anderson Mills Kinghorn, 91, husband of the late Julia Seay Kinghorn, died Jan. 28, 2006, in Beaufort.Memorial services will be today at 2 p.m. at The
Baptist Church of Beaufort. The family will receive friends at the church
after the service. Mr. Kinghorn was born in Beaufort, S.C., on
September 21, 1914, to James Albert Kinghorn and Mary Mills Kinghorn. He
was the first boy in Beaufort to become an Eagle Scout in 1931. He
attended Beaufort schools and graduated from Clemson College in 1936 with
a degree in civil engineering. After graduation he served the SC Highway
Department as resident engineer on construction of the Harbor River,
Hunting Island and Battery Creek bridges. He was married to Julia Seay on October 21, 1939.
During World War II he served in the U.S. Army as a captain with the 11th
Airborne Division in the Philippines. He was awarded the Silver Star in
combat on Luzon in February 1945. After the war he and his brothers, J.B.
and Albert, founded Kinghorn Building Supply Company and operated that
business until his retirement in 1985. He was a founder, charter member and former
commodore of the Beaufort Yacht & Sailing Club. He and other key
leaders were responsible for the club securing the existing property on
Lady's Island. He was selected by the membership as the first member of
the Topsail Society. He loved sailing and actively raced sailboats into
his mid-80s. Mr. Kinghorn was a member of The Baptist Church of
Beaufort since 1924. He faithfully served the church as deacon, director
of the Sunday school and as the resident church historian for many years.
He was formerly a trustee of the Baptist College of Charleston. He served
on the Beaufort City Council from 1959 to 1963. Mr. Kinghorn is survived by two daughters, Louise K.
Smithwick and husband Jim and Dorothy K. Huggins and husband Paul, both of
Columbia; a son, Andy Kinghorn, and his wife, Betsy, of Beaufort; seven
grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to The Baptist

Caroline Hospice, 1110 13th Street, Port Royal, SC 29935. Copeland Funeral
