Original Bible belonging to David Lyon Thomson, immigrant to South Carolina from Scotland in 1821. Present (1967) custodian of the Bible is David Lyon Thomason of Washington, D. C.
A great-granddaughter of the immigrant, Mrs. Marshall Smith, Sr., Somerset, New Jersey, is endeavoring to compile a complete history and genealogy of the family.

    Thomson Family Record - Marriages

    In Beaufort, South Carolina, on the 31st May 1833, by the Rev. D. Bythewood - David Lyon Thomson to Christianna Margaretha Houseal.

    In Barnwell County, South Carolina, on the 30th June 1858 - John Houseal Thomson, son of David L. and Christianna M. Thomson - to Eugenia Eliza Furse.

    In Beaufort, South Carolina, on the 10th July 1867 - Anna Margaretta Thomson, daughter of David L. and C. M. Thomson - to Stephen Smith Furse of Barnwell County, So. Car., by Rev. Jas. Walker.

    In Barnwell County, S. C. on the 7th April 1868 - William Thomson, son of D. L. and C. M. Thomson to Anne Ellen Furse.

    Elspeth Lyon Thomson, daughter of D. L. & C. M. Thomson to James G. Garnett, 11th Sept. 1872.

    James Thomson, son of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, to Addie Thomson at Blackville, S. C., on the 28th Oct. 1870 by R. T. minister.

    Robert Thomson, son of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, at Stonehaven, Scotland, 13th August 1873 to Margaret A. W. Crockett (by Rev. Mr. Watt)

    Births

    David Lyon Thomson, eldest son of John and Elspeth Thomson was born in Stonehaven, North Britain, on Sabbath afternoon the 14th of October 1804.

    Christianna Margaretha Houseal, daughter of John Bernard Houseal, M. D. and Mary Talbird, his wife, was born at High Park near Coosawahatchie, Beaufort District, South Carolina, about 5 p.m. on the 19th of February 1811.

    Mary Thomson, first child of the above named David and Christianna Thomson, was born in Charleston, So. Car. on Friday, 17th and died on Sunday morning 19th October 1834. (A poem was composed and written in father's own beautiful script to this infant.)

    Mary Talbird Thomson, second child of David L. and Christianna M. Thomson, was born in Beaufort, S. C., at ½ past 4 o'clock on Sabbath morning 7th August 1836.

    John Houseal Thomson, third child of David L. and Christianna M. Thomson, was born in Beaufort, S. C. at ¼ before 6 o'clock on Tuesday morning 14th November 1837.

    David Lyon Thomson, fourth child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, born in Beaufort, So. Car., at ½ past 2 o'clock P. M., Tuesday 16th July 1839.

    William Thomson, fifth child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, born in Beaufort, So. Car., 4 o'clock Monday morning 18th January 1841.

    Elspeth Lyon Thomson, sixth child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, born in Beaufort, S. C., 4 o'clock P. M. 10th October 1842.

    Robert Thomson, seventh child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, born in Beaufort, So. Car., 9 o'clock A. M. 14th January 1846.

    Anne Margaretta Thomson, eighth child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, born in Beaufort, S. C. 3rd August 1847.

    James Thomson, ninth child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, born in Beaufort, S. C., 28th October 1848.

    Christianna Crawford Thomson, 10th  child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, born in Beaufort, S. C., Monday 8 P. M. 26th August 1850.

    Bernard Melchior Thomson, 11th child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, born in Beaufort, S. C., Sunday morning 6th February 1853.

    Euphemia J. Thomson, first child of Robert and M. A. W. Thomson, born 10 October Camden, S. C. - died 20 October 1876 Augusta, Ga.

    James C. Thomson, second child of same, born 13th July 1876, Augusta, Ga.

    Christianna H. Thomson, third child of same, born 13 Nov. 1878.

    Robert B. Thomson, fourth child of same, born 23rd Feby, 1881.

    Margaret W. Thomson, fifth child of same, born 18th Sept. 1882.

    Emilie A. Thomson, sixth child of same, born 31 Dec. 1886.

    David L. Thomson, seventh child of same, born 29th Dec. 1889. (present custodian of the Bible)

    Note: All entries were made in handwriting of D. L. Thomson up until about 1868 when he died.

    On Family Record page at top of page in fine handwriting is this notation:   D. L. Thomson landed in Savannah, Ga. 8 May and in Beaufort, S. C. on the 12 May, 1821.

    Deaths

    Mary Thomson, first child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, died in Charleston, S. C. 19th October 1834.

    Mary Talbird Thomson, second child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, died in Beaufort, S. C, 13th November 1838.

    Mary Talbird, Mother of C. M. Thomson and grandmother of D. L. & C. M. Thomson children, died in Beaufort, S. C., 19th October 1840.

    Christianna Crawford Thomson, tenth child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, died in Beaufort, S. C., 1st Sept. 1851.

    John Houseal Thomson, third child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, fell in the Battle of Manasses in Virginia, 30th August 1862. (Capt. Co. E, 1st S. C. V. - Hagood's Regt.)

    David Lyon Thomson, fourth child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, died in Beaufort, S. C., 27th October 1866 (at residence of his father D. L. T.)

    William Thomson, fifth child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, died in Barnwell County, S. C., 23rd May 1869 (near Martin, S. C.)

    David Lyon Thomson, eldest son of John & Elspeth Thomson, died in Beaufort, S. C. 4th June 1870, aged 65 yrs., 7 mos., 21 days.

    Christianna Margaretta, wife of David L. Thomson, died at Aiken, S. C., the 24th of April 1875, aged 64 yrs. 2 mos. and 5 days (at the residence of Robert Thomson).

    Bernard Melchior Thomas, 11th child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, died August 6, 1880, near Martin, Barnwell County, S. C. at residence of Stephen S. Furse.

    James Thomson, ninth child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, died in Blackville, So. Car., October 25th, 1898 aged 49 yrs. 11 mos. 27 days.

    Elspeth Lyon Thomson, sixth child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, died in Savannah, Ga., 19th Feby. 1920 in residence of her daughter Annie.

    Robert Thomson, seventh child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, died in Washington, D. C. May 21, 1927, aged 81 years 4 mos. Buried in Beaufort, S. C., in Old Baptist Churchyard.

    Anna Margaretta Thomson, eighth child of D. L. & C. M. Thomson, died in Savannah, Ga., March 1928, aged 81 yrs., 7 mo. Buried in Bonaventure, Savannah, Ga.

    James Furse, son of Anne Margaretta Thomson Furse, died 18 March 1928 in Svannah, Ga. Buried in Bonaventure, Savannah, Ga. [sic]
