Beaufort National Cemetery Section 53 Confederates The section is in the shape
of a triangle. It consists of 116 grave sites numbered from 6318 to 6434
in 9 rows. The first row is numbered left to right, the second right to
left and so on. The first row is closest to the road and has 23 sites, the
second has 21, third 18, fourth 16, fifth 13, sixth 11, seventh 8, eighth
5 with no marker in the first space and no number missing from the
sequence, and the last row has 2 grave sites. The rows below are all
listed left to right. There is a memorial to the Confederate soldiers
dedicated by General Richard H. Anderson placed in front of the first row
and dated July 31, 1997. It is inscribed with “We remember your sacrifice”
“Camp No. 47””Beaufort S.C.”
