Steve Way

Richmond Hill - Steve Way, 52, died Sunday, September 12, 2004 at his residence. 
He was born in Charles City, Iowa and had lived in Richmond Hill for the past 20 years. He was a US Marine Corps disabled Vietnam Veteran. He earned a Masters Degree in Theology from The Assemblies of God Graduate School in Springfield, Missouri.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sally and Jeffrey Pringle of Richmond Hill; son, Gabriel Way of Richmond Hill; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Ruth Beckner of Nashua, IA and Bruce and Kari Way of Dallas Center, IA; sister, Lucinda Blackburn of Butte, MT; two grandchildren, Landon Way and Haiden Pringle.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 15, 2004 at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 16, 2004 at Carter Funeral Home Bryan Chapel in Richmond Hill. Burial: Beaufort National Cemetery with full military honors. Betty Woods

RIDGELAND - Services for Betty Eugenia Groover Woods, 69, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sauls Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Gum Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Gum Branch, Ga. Visitation is 6-8 this evening at the funeral home.

Mrs. Woods, wife of Horace B. Woods, died Sunday. Born in Gum Branch, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Ralph Howard Groover and Betty Todd Groover. She was a member of Maye River Baptist Church, Bluffton.

Surviving are her husband; sons, Horace III, Roger, Carl, Darrell Woods; daughter, Debora Butler; two brothers; three sisters. (State, The (Columbia, SC) - July 2, 2001)

Claudia Idell Wilcox

Claudia Idell Wilcox, 87, died Thursday at Westview Nursing Home in Port Wentworth, Ga.  She retired as a machine operator for Tetley Tea and was a member of the Port Wentworth United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William W. Wilcox, and her parents Dan C. and Annie (Holiday) Cooler.  Survivors include two daughters, Faye (Jimmie) Hartley of Port Wentworth, Ga., Dale (Larry) Roberts of Stilson; sister, Gladys Simmons of Bluffton; grandchildren, Jason Roberts and Chris Roberts of Stilson, Teresa Edwards of Macon, and Traci Whitaker of Rincon; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Maye River Baptist Church Cemetery in Bluffton.  Remembrance donations may be given to Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416 or Maye River Baptist Church, P.O. Box 814, Bluffton, SC 29910. (Bluffton Today (SC) - October 18, 2008)

Alison Marie Williams

Alison Marie Williams -WARNER ROBINS - Alison Marie Williams, 31, died January 17, 2005 at her residence. Memorial services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2005 at 1P.M. in the chapel of Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Beaufort National Cemetery with military honors. -Ms. Williams was born on April 25, 1973 in Rahway, NJ, a daughter of Walter L. Williams and the late Rosalind Larson Williams. -She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy as an aviation technician.

She is survived by her father of Columbia, SC; her daughter, Megan Alyssa Williams of Warner Robins; two sisters, Maureen Davis of Beaufort and Lisa Heim of New Jersey.

Eloise Willis

COLUMBIA - Services for Eloise C. Willis, 84, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2002, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial at 2:30 p.m. in Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shandon United Methodist Church, the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Willis passed away Monday, July 8, 2002. Born in the Bethel Community of Fairfield County, she was the daughter of the late Eugene Steele Clark and Estelle Chappell Clark. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1937 with an AB Degree in Mathematics. She was a life member of the Carolina Alumni Association. She began her vocation as a teacher in 1937 at Charlotte Thompson High School in Boykin, where she taught mathematics. In 1938 she married USC classmate, George Addison Willis. Together, they moved to Memphis Tenn., Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Vicksburg, Miss. in rapid successions before settling in Savannah, GA., in 1948. In Savannah, she resumed teaching in church and private kindergartens and then at St. Michael's Episcopal Day School where she later became principal. She participated in the American Association of University Women as well as Delta Kappa Gamma while living in Savannah and was a member of Epworth Methodist Church there.

Mrs. Willis returned to teaching mathematics at Savannah High School in late 1961. While at Savannah High School, she was awarded a National Science Foundation Grant to attend a math institute at the University of Chicago during the summer of 1967. In 1968 she was selected as the STAR teacher for Savannah High School. She resigned from teaching in 1969 to accompany her husband to a new position in Fort Worth, Texas, where she did substitute teaching. In Fort Worth, she was active in the Corps of Engineers Wives Club, serving as an officer from 1970 until 1972. After returning to Columbia in the summer of 1972, she became active in education again as a volunteer at Richland Northeast High School and as a private tutor in mathematics.

Mrs. Willis was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church and the Christian Home Sunday School Class from 1972 until her death. She was a member of the Daffodil Garden Club, the Tea Cup Chain Gang and the Allemande Square Dance Clubs. She was a talented teacher and a gifted seamstress.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, teacher and friend.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, George Addison Willis; daughters and their husbands, Jean Willis and Enoch M. Overby of Calhoun, Ga., Susan Willis and James B. Brant of Columbia; grandchildren, Deborah O. Kirby and her husband, Glenn, of Dallas, Texas, Walter Overby and Eric Overby of Atlanta, Ga., Ashley Brant of Charleston, Bethany Brant of Atlanta, Ga. and Laney Brant of Columbia; sister, Bess Clark Aaron of Columbia; brother and sister-in-law, Ray C. and Ruth Clark of Mt. Pleasant; brother-in-law and wife, Derryl O. and Ann Willis of Charlotte, N.C. and 14 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant granddaughter, Rebecca Helen Brant, sister, Margaret Clark Meyers and brothers, Eugene S. Clark Jr. and Theron D. Clark. (State, The (Columbia, SC) - July 9, 2002) 

Floyd Allen Whitted

SARASOTA, Fla. -Mr. Floyd Allen Whitted, Sr., 95, of Sarasota, Fla., died Sunday afternoon, June 4, 2006, at his residence after an extended illness.

Born June 4, 1911, in Manatee County, Fla., he was the son of the late Allen Whitted and Viola Walker Whitted McKendree. He was a retired electrician and was of the Presbyterian faith.

He is survived by two sons, Floyd Allen Whitted, Jr. of Sarasota, Fla. and Ira Beach and wife, Emily, of Varnville, S.C.; one sister, Christine Standridge of Bradenton, Fla.; one granddaughter, Sandra Cannon and husband, George, of Varnville; and three great-grandchildren, Nathan, Jeremy and Clay Cannon. He was married to the late Vera Bennett Whitted.

Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Maye River Baptist Church Cemetery near Bluffton, S.C., conducted by Rev. Glenn Samples and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service. Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry St., Hampton, SC 29924, is assisting the family with the arrangements. Luther Willis

DALE - Services for Luther Willis, 76, will be held at noon today, August 17, 2000, at the Salvation Army Church, Beaufort. Burial with military honors will follow in Beaufort National Cemetery. Marshel's Wright-Donaldson Home for Funerals is in charge.

Mr. Willis died Friday. Born in Beaufort County, he was a son of the late Henry and Lydia McNeal Willis. He was in the U.S. Navy and worked as a carpenter. Mr. Willis was a member of Salvation Army Church.

Surviving are a son, Cornelius Singleton of Dale; sisters, Sadie Brown, LaVerne Willis and Odessa Willis all of Dale and Gertrude Parker of Washington, D.C.; brother, Warno McBride of New York; three grandchildren. (State, The (Columbia, SC) - August 17, 2000)

Mason L. Weems
Died in Beaufort, South Carolina, on the 23d of May last, after a long and painful indisposition, the Rev’d Mason L. Weems of Dumfries, Va.; well known as the author of the Life of Washington, and various other popular works which have passed through numerous editions and have had a most extensive circulation.
