In the Name of God Amen
I George Gill (Sen) of the District aforesaid Planter being in good
health and of Sound and disposing mind but calling to mind the
certainty of death do make and declare and ordain, this my last Will
and testament and I do hereby revoke annul and cansel every and all
other Wills or Will whatsoever by me heretofore
made
First - I give bequeath and devise to my Son C.
Strait Gill all that part or tract of land (it being a Part of the
plantation whereon I resided lying to the South Western Side of a
line run from a marked corner Postoak tree on the clover Pasture
fence Straight to the north East corner of my machine Shed, thence
in a Pine tree corner on my old tract of land thence down to the
creek by my line adjoining the land Purchased formerly by me from
Ashcraft and now owned and in Possession of the Said C.S. Gill and
the bounding line betwixt my Plantation and David Boyd, together
with the machine house and all the Machinery thereunto belonging to
him his heirs and assigns forever

Item I give
bequeath and devise all the remainder of my land, lying on the
northeastern Side of the Said above mentioned line (Except what I
have lately deeded to my Son Jas Gill) together with the dwelling
house and all the other buildings upon that part of the Said
tract, the following negro Slaves Viz ~ Andrew, commonly called
Andy, Sidney, Sarah, Neely, John, Jane, and Remus, two work houses
and a Sufficient Stock of horned cattle, Sheep and hogs and
farming utensils to Stock and cary on the farm; to my Wife Jane
Gill for and during the term of her natural life and from and
immediately after her death I devise that Said land above devised
to the Said Jane Gill for life to my Son J. Green Gill and assigns
forever.

Item, I give,
devise and bequeath my negro Woman Caroline and her children
Hannah Mary and Rainy together with all her future issue to my
Wife Jane Gill to be hers without control and at her absolute
reposal

Item, at the
death of my Wife Jane Gill it is my desire and I do hereby enjoin
that my two Slaves Andrew and Sydney above mentioned each Shall
have the use of as much land as they can work on the tract herein
devised to my Son Green, for the term of their natural lives to
maintain themselves and not to have any work whatsoever imposed
upon them And to be under the care of my Son Green and I do hereby
enjoin upon my two Sons Straight and Green, in consideration
of what I herein devise to them to carry into effect this
clause of my will and I constitute them the Said Strait and Green
Gill and George Gill my Executors

bequeath and devise my three negro Slaves Neely, Jane and Remus
above named, Children of Sydney at the death of my Wife Jane Gill
to my Son C Strait Gill to his heirs and assigns forever

and bequeath to my Son C S Gill at my death my desk and my bed and
bedding on which I Sleep

and bequeath to my Son Thomas Gill one Railroad and Railroad bank

railroad bank Share

and bequeath to my Grandson George Wilmot Gill two Shares in the
Camden Bank

and bequeath to my daughter Mary Robertson twenty

and bequeath to my daughter Sarah L. Terry twenty

and bequeath my Blacksmith tools to my Son J.G. Gill, and to my
Son Strait my MCright Mills

Item - I will
that all my Property not hereintofore disposed of at my death be
Sold at Public Sale and after paying my debts and the above money
legacies the residue or remainder be equally divided betwixt my
Sons C Strait Gill and. J. G. Gill Share and Share alike, I will
that the property herein before willed to my Wife Jane Gill and
not otherwise disposed of at her death be Sold & the Proceeds
equally divided betwixt my two Sons C.S.Gill & I.? J. Gill,
Share alike
In testamony whereof I
do hereunto affix my hand and Seal this twenty third day of January
in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty four
and in the Sixty eighth year of the Suvereigty and Independence of
the United States of America

and declared by the above named George Gill as and for his last Will
and testament in the Presence of us who have hereunto Subscribed our
names as Witnesses

Note: Thomas Ashcraft
was neighboring landowner to George Gill in 1819. Their land lay
along the South Fork of Fishing Creek. A plat showing the
approximate location of their land and land of other adjacent
landholders* is available from the South Carolina Department of
Archives and History: ST 591; Reel 24; Vol. 46, Pg. 63; Item No. 2 -
plat surveyed for Suprey Chrisholm 12 March 1819; Frame 69. Sadly,
the microfilm is of poor quality.
