Margaret Swygert Greenwood - Margaret Evans Swygert, 77, of 125 Canyon
Drive, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002. Survivors: Husband, James Roland Swygert Jr. daughters,
Judy Kelley and Nita Gilmer sisters, Mollie Taylor and Ollie M.
Johnson brothers, James E. and Herman O. Evans five grandsons four

Wells Jackson
Snead
Greenwood Journal published on May 27,

On Tuesday Morning, May 18th, the Angel of Death
called at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. K. Snead and took from his
temporal home, their infant son, Wells Jackson, aged ten months and
eighteen days. His body was buried in the cemetery at
Greenwood, SC. Dr. E. J. Forrester conducted the
services at the grave, and his remarks were very consoling to the
grief stricken parents.
Mamie Walker Greenwood---Mamie McGee
Walker, 79, of 137 Blyth Road died Wednesday. She was a
retired employee of Greenwood Mills, Matthews Plant, and was a
member of Matthew United Methodist Church. She attended South
Greenwood Church of God. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.
Kenneth {Joyce} Elmore of Greenwood; a sister, Vera Tharpe of
Greenwood, and a brother, Cleve McGee of Greenwood. Services
3pm Thursday at South Greenwood Church of God with burial in
Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Harley Funeral Home, Greenwood.

Mary
L. Stokes Funeral services for Mrs. Mary L. Stokes
will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Marks Methodist
Church. Mrs. Stokes died Monday after an extended illness. She
was a member of St. Marks Methodist Church and a native of
Greenwood, S.C. The body will be at the residence. 1251
Wrightsboro Road, until the hour of service. She is survived
by one daughter, Mrs. Mozella P. Singfield and other

Sisk Greenwood, June 30 - Mrs. Maude Wall Sisk, 73,
wife of H. D. Sisk of Laurens Highway, died today at Self Memorial
Hospital after 11 weeks sickness. A native of Wilkes County,
Ga., she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Wall and
Caroline Cooley Wall. She had lived in Greenwood for 15 years
and wa a member of Coronaca Baptist Church. Survivors, in
addition to her husband, include two sones, James Sisk, St. Marks,
Fla.; Robert Sisk, Greenwood; five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs.
Carrie Lou Cofer, Washington, Ga.; Mrs. H. D. Raby, Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held at Blythe Funeral Home Tuesday at 11
a.m. by the REv. WAde Burton. Burial will be in Sardis baptist
Church cemetery near Washington, Ga. The body will remain at
the funeral home until after the service. The family is at the

Gregory Carlylle Schoper Alexandria, VA-Funeral
services for 1st Lt. Gregory Carlylle Schoper, who was killed Feb.
14 in Vietnam, will be conducted Friday at 2 pm in Fort Myer Chapel.
Burial with fullmilitary honors will be in Arlington National
Cemetery. Lieutenant Schoper was born at Fort Bragg, NC. He
was a graduate of the American high School at Kaiserslautern,
Germany, and a Distinguished M ilitary Graduate of Clemson
University. He entered the US Army on Dec. 19, 1968. His
wife is the former Sherry Ann McKee of Greenwood. She is now making
her home with her parents., Lt. Col. And Mrs. Royce McKee, 6304
Lachine Lane, Alexandria. He is also survived by his parents. M .
Sgt and M rs. Floyd R. Read of Huntsville, Ala; a sister, Miss Mary
Lou Read of Huntsville; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. George
A. Schoper of Montpelier, Idaho, and maternal grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. M . W. Smith of San Luis Obispo, Cal. Everly Wheatley Funeral

Sweatt Greenwood Man Killed in
Vietnam Greenwood Index-Journal Sp. 4 Clyde Stanley Sweatt was
killed in action in Vietnam Saturday, the Army has notified his
wife, Mrs. Barbara M cKee Sweatt. Sweatt was assigned to Co.
2, 2nd Battalion, of the mechanized 8th Infantry. He began his Army
tour of duty Feb. 15, 1968. He has just returned to duty after
hospitalization for wounds received Feb. 24, when the half-track he
was riding ran over a land mine. For those wounds, he received the
Purple Heart. He had been employed at Mathews Mill before he went
into service. Mrs. Sweatt was living with her parents on
Piedmont Street while her husband was in Vietnam. Survivors,
in addition to his wife, are five brothers, Howard Sweatt of
Atlanta, Ga., Larry Sweatt of the U.S. Navy Training Station at
Orlando, Fla., and Clayton, Leon and Edwin Sweatt of Anderson; his
parents, Mr. And Mrs. Clyde Sweatt of Greenwood; a sister, Mrs. J.
C. [Amelia] White of Greenwood. Funeral plans will be

Barbara Ann McKee (Sweatt) Barbara
Ann McKee, 50, of 101 Piedmont St., widow of Clyde "Buster" Sweatt,
who was killed in Vietnam, died Jan. 20, 1995, at Self Memorial
Hospital. Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of the late
Otis Allen and Carolyn Powell McKee. She was employed with Greenwood
M ills and was a member of Callie Self Memorial Baptist
Church. Surviving are a sister, Ramona McKee Jefferson of
Greenwood. Services will be Saturday at 3:30 pm at Harley
Funeral Home with the Rev. Lewis Sherard and the Rev. Reuel
Westbrook officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial
Gardens. Pallbearers will be Bobby Richardson, Joe Tullis,
Onnie Doyle, Bobby Joe Mooney, Eddie Childers, Bill Childers, and
Donnie Knight. Honrary escorts will be Ann Tullis, Beverly
Knight, Betty Doyle, Margie Fagan, Paula Worthington, Judy Childers,
Helen Nelson, Jean Still, Mayble Lesley, Barbara Johnson, and Ben
Johnson. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9
at the funeral home. The family is at the home of her sister,

Mrs. Georgia C Williams Special to
The State. Greenwood, Feb. 24. - Mrs. Georgia C. Williams, a most
estimable Christain woman, died at the home of her sister. Mrs. J.
W, Duckett, here Sunday night and was buried at the city cemetery
Monday afternoon after funeral services in the First Baptist church
conducted by her pastor, the Rev. B. H. DeMent, D. D. Mrs.
Williams was one of the four surviving charter members of this
church. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. J. W. Duckett, Sr.; one
brother. Thomas N. Parks of Newberry and one son, W. Allie Williams.
Mrs. Williams was in her 66th year. [The State, 2/25/1916]
Troy , Feb. 19. – After one week’s illness of influenza and
complications, Mrs. J. N.
Talbert died Sunday morning, February 15. The body was
laid to rest Monday morning at 12 o’clock at Bethany Baptist
church. Before marriage, Mrs. Talbert was Miss Margaret
Robinson of Greenville . She was a splendid Christian woman and will
be greatly missed in her church and community. She is survived by
one sister, Mrs. F. A. Sizemore, Greenville , her husband and two
small children, Helen and John Mixon, Jr. [State – 20 Feb. 1920 ;
