Ivy Z. Abrams
Newberry, Dec. 2 - Ivy Z. Abrams died Thursday night at his home two miles northwest of Newberry and was buried Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock at Smyrna churchyard, the funeral services being conducted by the Rev. T. C. Croker. Mr. Abrams was 73 years old. He is survived by his wife and two sons and two daughters - Robert Abrams of Anderson and Clark Abrams of Newberry; Mrs. Will Johnson of Cross Hill and Miss Mildred Abrams, teachers, in the school at Johnston. Mr. Abrams served in the Confederate army the last two years of the war, going in when only a boy.
Mr. W.H. Anderson, who had long suffered with an affection of the lungs, came to Newberry recently hoping that a change of air and scene &c would restore his wasting energy, but all that affectionate relatives and kind finds could do proved unavailing and he gently fell on the sleep of death the 29th. An appropriate and impressive service was held at the Aveleigh Church and the remains were conveyed to Rosemount Cemetery and interred with Masonic honors. He was from the low county, an exemplary gentleman and member of the Medical profession.
Services for Dr. James C. Abrams, 79, of 940 Cornelia St. will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Whitaker Funeral Home, with burial in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 6 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Newberry College or First Baptist Church of Newberry.
Mr. Abrams died Friday, March 31, 1995. Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late John Chesley and Etta Bedenbaugh Abrams. He was an Army veteran of World War II, was a graduate of Newberry College, received an M.Ed. from the University of South Carolina and a doctor of laws degree from Newberry College. He retired as registrar of Newberry College and was a former teacher and superintendent of Newberry schools.
Dr. Abrams was a charter member of Bachman Honor Society of Newberry College and Newberry Exchange Club.
He was a member of Prosperity Masonic Lodge 115, Grand Lodge of South Carolina, Masonic Education Committee of the Grand Lodge, the American, Southern and Carolinas Associations of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers and First Baptist Church of Newberry, where he was Sunday school superintendent and teacher, a deacon and choir member.
Surviving are his wife, Rebecca Pettit Abrams; a daughter, Ann Heinz of Delray Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
NEWBERRY - Thomas M. Abrams, 81, formerly of 4200 Bush River Road, Newberry, died Saturday, January 10, 2004, in J. F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Mr. Abrams was born in Newberry County, a son of the late Oscar H. and Phoebe Reagin Abrams. He was a 1943 graduate of Clemson College and he was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the infantry in the European Theater. He had retired in 1984 as the Director of the Newberry County Conservation Service (ASCS) Office and he was recognized for his outstanding contributions to the agriculture in Newberry County. He was a member of Smyrna Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder. He was also a member of the Newberry Lions Club and he was a Bush River Volunteer Fireman. He enjoyed hunting and was an avid Clemson football fan. Mr. Abrams is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marcia A. and Homer L. "Sonny" Ringer of Newberry; his grandson, Lee T. Ringer of Lufkin, Texas; a sister, Inez A. Stephens of Newberry; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Frances Abrams and Gertrude Wise and three brothers, Cecil, Mac, and Ed Abrams. Funeral services for Thomas M. Abrams will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Smyrna Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Claudia Sheely Aull, 101, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Myrtle Beach Manor. She was born Dec. 17, 1898, in Newberry, a daughter of the late Ludie A. and Maggie Hipp Sheely. She was a 1924 graduate of Columbia Hospital School of Nursing, a retired director of nursing in Pennington Gap, Va., and was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Myrtle Beach. She was the widow of Roscoe S. Aull. Survivors include a brother, Harold P. Sheely of Virginia Beach, Va.; six nephews; and three nieces. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pomaria. Memorials may be made to any charity. McMillan-Small Funeral Home of Myrtle Beach is in charge.
Newberry, March 24 - Jasper Amick, 70, a well-known farmer on Lake Murray, died today after a long illness. Besides his widow, he is survived by four sons and three daughters, Eugene, Herbert, Carl, Clinton Amick, Mrs. Seber Amick and Mrs. Malcolm Amick of Prosperity and Mrs. C.T. Humphrey of Mooresville, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Amos, and 25 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Saturday afternoon at Macedonia Lutheran church with the Rev. E.Z. Pence in Charge, assisted by the Rev. D. E. Oxner and the Rev. J.B. Harman. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Newberry, June 30 - Mrs. Elizabeth Huffstetler Amick, of
Newberry, died this afternoon at the Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood. She
had been ill for four months and seriously ill for the past two weeks. Mrs.
Amick was a native of North Carolina, daughter of the late Ames and Anna Dunn
Huffstetler. She had made her home in Ware Shoals with her daughter, Mrs. Lee
Marler for a number of years. Her husband, James Luther Amick, died 18 years
ago. Mrs. Amick was a member of St. Peters Pineywoods Lutheran Church. Survivors
include one son, Horace O. Amick of Donalds; four daughters, Mrs. Eunice Farr of
Little Mountain; Mrs. Rose Dennis of Newberry and Mrs. Alma Reaves and Mrs.
Zilla Marler of Ware Shoals; three brothers, John of West Columbia, William of
Chapin, and Robert Huffstetler of Prosperity; one half-brother, Charlie
Huffstetler of Newberry; 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Funeral
arrangements are incomplete. The body is at the McSwain Funeral Home in
Newberry.
Martha Boozer
Abrams
Mrs. Martha Boozer Abrams, 58, wife of Thomas (Tom) M.
Abrams of Route 3, Newberry died Saturday at the Newberry County Memorial
Hospital.
Mrs. Abrams was born in Newberry County, daughter of the late Earnest L. and Martha Cole Boozer. She was a retired employee of Newberry County School System and a member of Presbyterian Church.
Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Sonny (Marcia) Ringer of Newberry; two sisters, Mrs. Maude Summer of Newbery and Mrs. Sara Kidd of Enterprize, Mississipi; one brother, Chevis I. Boozer of Newberry; and one grandson, Lee Thomas Ringer of Newberry.
Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. today (Monday) at Whitaker Funeral Home by Rev. Charles Gahagan. Burial will be in Smyrna Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Benjamin Claude
Adams
Mr. Benjamin C. Adams died at his home near Kinards on
Monday and was buried on Tuesday at Trinity Church. He was about forty-five
years of age and leaves a wife and several children. Mr. Adams was a native of
Edgefield county but had lived in Newberry County about fifteen years.

Richard Earl Addison
Memorial services for Richard Earl Addison will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Epting Memorial United Methodist Church. Visitation will be this evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at McSwain-Evans Funeral Home. Mr. Addison, 83, died April 5, 2006. Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late Dewey Sease Addison and Dezaree Young Addison Addy. Mr. Addison was retired from the S.C. Highway Department. He was a World War II Navy veteran, having served on the LST 346 as a chief Petty Officer Signalman, and participated in D. Day at Normandy. In 2003, he was awarded the Jubilee of Liberty Medal more than 50 years after his participation in what was described as America's greatest military victory. He was a member of Epting Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class. Mr. Addison was a member of Amity Lodge #87 AFM and the Hejaz Temple. He was a Ham Radio Operator and enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Florence Shealy Addision; daughters,
Susan (Gary) Bouknight of Newberry and Crystal (Mike) Greenway of Simpsonville;
sisters, Barbara Addy Stutts of Newberry, and Mary Ann Addy Kirby of Gastonia,
N.C.; grandchildren, Benjamin Earl Bouknight, Aaron Addison Bouknight, Addison
Michael "Buck" Greenway, and Noah Will Greenway; and great-grandchildren,
Chelsea Bouknight, Cody Bouknight, Ryan Bouknight and Cole Bouknight. Mr.
Addison was predeceased by a sister, Ruth Addy Molden; and a stepbrother, Frank
Addy.

County, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur E. and Ola West Epps. Surviving

Gregory, Mary Frances A. McManus; brother, W. Harold Epps; seven grandchildren;
a great-grandchild.

William 'Jack' Anderson
Newberry John William "Jack" Anderson,
78, formerly of 1523 Johnstone St., Newberry, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000. Mr.
Anderson was born Dec. 8, 1921, a son of the late Benjamin Thomas "B.T." Sr. and
Lorena Douglas Anderson. He was also predeceased by his brother, Ben T. Anderson
Jr. Mr. Anderson was an honor graduate of Newberry College. He spent the
majority of his teaching years at Newberry High School. He has long been
remembered for his dedication to his students and the field of mathematics
education.
Mr. Anderson resided at Brian Nursing Center/St.
Andrews in Columbia after many years of hard battle with Parkinson's Disease. He
was a Gift of Body Donor to the University of South Carolina School of Medicine,
for the purpose of teaching and research. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested
that memorials be made to Newberry College, 2100 College St., Newberry, SC 29108
or to Newberry County Library, 1300 Friend St., Newberry, SC 29108 in hope of

Mrs. Adams, widow of Frank Y. Adams, died Sunday at Newberry Co. Memorial Hospital. Born in Newberry Co., she was a daughter of the late John Eddie and Mary Ella Griffith Neal. She was a retired Business Agent for the Amalgated Clothing Workers, a member of Silverstreet Lutheran Church and the WELCA. She was also a charter member of Silverstreet High School Alumni Association.
Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Barry (Lisa) Richardson
of Pomaria; sisters, Mrs. Bill (Carrie Lee) Suber of Newberry, Mrs. Wilson
(Mary) Cleland of Clinton; brother, Ellerbe Neal of Clemson; grandchildren,

Mr. Amick died May 25, 2002. Born in Prosperity, he was a son of the late George Arthur and Cora Hamm Amick. Mr. Amick served in the U.S. Army in the 98th Division in Japan during World War II. In 1938, he began employment with Prosperity Furniture Company, where he worked until December 1999. Mr. Amick was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council for a number of years, was the treasurer for 20 years, and was a member of the "Goldies." He was also a member of the Prosperity Fire Department for a number of years.
Surviving are his
wife, Sarah Cannon Amick; sons and daughter-in-law, Donald (Dianne) Amick and
Richard Amick, all of Prosperity; daughters and sons-in-law, Jean (Jimmy) Munn
and Sandra (Hani) Daghestani, all of Columbia, Lynn (Dave) Burns of West Union,
Karen (Jim) West of Raleigh, N.C.; brothers, Claude Amick of Prosperity, Grady
Amick of Newberry; eight grandchildren; five great-grand-children. He was
predeceased by brothers, Leo and David Amick.

Mr. Amick died August 10, 2002. Born in Prosperity, he was a son of the late Jasper and Nancy Minetta Hamm Amick. Mr. Amick was a retired carpenter and farmer and a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church.

Mrs. Amick died January 5, 2002. Born in Lexington County, she was a daughter of the late Jasper Carl and Netta Hamm Amick. Mrs. Amick worked with her husband at Amick's Landing and was the oldest member of Macedonia Lutheran Church, where she was also a former organist.

Gladys Amick
Prosperity Gladys Shealy Amick, 87, of 548 McNeary St., widow of James Leo Amick, died Nov. 30, 2002, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Survivors: Daughters, Ann A. Bedenbaugh and Gay A. Rawls of Prosperity sister, Dorothy Stoudemire of Chapin four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Predeceased: Parents, O'Neal Shealy and Minnie Inez Fulmer Shealy Amick brother, Earl grandson, Terry Bedenbaugh.

Ayers
PROSPERITY - Funeral services for G. Wayne Ayers, 74, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Macedonia Lutheran Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Born in Marion, N.C., he was a son of the late James Augustus and Minnie Creson Ayers. Mr. Ayers had retired after 27 years of service with the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War. During his service he received a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star and numerous other honors and medals. Following retirement from the military he worked for the U.S. Postal service in Columbia. Mr. Ayers was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church, the Goldies and the Lutheran Men. He was also a member of Lake Murray Rescue Squad, the Newberry County Humane Society and Fairview Community Center.
He is survived by his
wife, Jeannette Amick Ayers; daughters, Susan A. Henley of Charleston and Jeanie
A. Flippin of Columbia; stepsons, Craig Hipp of Pomaria and Mark Hipp of
Prosperity; sisters, Mozelle Allen of Asheville, N.C., Ruby Jo Allen of
Colorado, Lil Lowery of Virginia and Ruth Lance of Prosperity; brothers, John
Ayers of Marion, N.C., and Jake Ayers of Asheville, N.C.; four grandchildren;
twp stepgrandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Pauline
Ayers.
Pauline Ayers
PROSPERITY - Services for Pauline R. Ayers, 63, of 644 Sunset Road, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Macedonia Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery. Mrs. Ayers died Friday, May 29, 1998, at her residence. Born in Sprowston, (Norwich) England, she was a daughter of the late Timothy Coleman and Rosina Dobbs Blanchflower. She was a homemaker and a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church. She was a founding member of the Newberry County Humane Society (NCHS), of which she was a past president and executive board member, was secretary-treasurer of the Lake Murray Rescue Team, and was a past secretary of the Fairview Community Center.
Surviving are husband,
G. Wayne Ayers; daughters, Susan A. Henley of Charleston and Jeanie A. Flippin
of Columbia; brother, Ronald Blanchflower of Norwich, England; sister, Joan
Coles of Norwich, England; three grandchildren; and five

Mr. Auton died Thursday, September 28, 2000 at his residence. Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late Loomis Henry and Elizabeth Duckett Auton. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Kendall Company, Oakland Plant. He was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church where he was a member of the Lutheran Men and the Goldies. He was the president of the local textile union for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Sara Mae Hipp Auton; sons, Henry Auton and Hugh Auton, both of Prosperity; daughters, Wanda Auton Amick and Tammy Auton Kunkle, both of Prosperity; nine granddaughters; 13 great-grandchildren.
