James Ivey Cromer (b. December 13, 1824 d.
May 23, 1899), son of David Cromer was married three times. It is believed his first wife was Mary ? (ca. 1827).
They had three children: Lavinia (b. February 1, 1845 d.?), Catherine (b. June 3, 1846 d.?), and John Federick
(b. May 21, 1848 d.?). His second marriage was to Catherine ? (ca 1831). This information came from the 1850
Newberry County Census Book from Newberry County Library.
Ivey was married the third time to Suzanna Thomasson Suber (b. November 18, 1835 d. February 15, 1897), daughter
of John and Ibby Dickert Thomasson and widow of Michael Drayton Suber.
William David (b. August 1, 1858 d. April 19, 1920) who married Sallie Elizabeth Suber (b. February 28, 1861 d.
July 10, 1905) on December 14, 1882. Melvin Ledford (b November 17, 1861 d. ?). Nancy Catherine (b April 16,
1872 d. ?). John Thomas (b. June 19, 1875 d. April 23, 1957 who first married Minnie E. (b. September 19, 1876
d. November 16. 1905). He was married the second time to Frances Haynie Hentz (b. September 20, 1880 d. December
9, 1963. Jacob Preston (b. October 4, 1878 d. September 23, 1882).
During the Civil War, Ivey was a private in the Confederte Army. He enlisted on January 7, 1862 at Camp Hampton,
S.C. He was in Captain Joel B. Heller's Co., Co. G, Holcombe's Legion - S.C. Volunteers. On April 3, 1865 he
was captured in Petersburg by Captain Sherman and was taken to City Point, Virginia. He was released on June 17,
1865. Ivey and Susanna are buried at Lebanon Methodist Church.
