'Miss Annie' Has Prepared Communion For May Years Newberry Observer Oct. 23, 1959
Since the fall of 1928, 'Miss Annie,' as Mrs. J. L. Dickert of 1319 College Street is affectionately known by First Baptist Church members has been preparing for communion services. It was 31 years ago last Sunday - the third Sunday of October - that 'Miss Annie' began serving on the communion committee. Shortly thereafter, she assumed chairmanship, which by her own interest resolved into personal commitment to this work. Until just a few years ago, when she was incapacitated by a broken arm she continued to serve in this capacity, missing not a single service. At that time she was and has been since assisted by her son, Coke Dickert, who continues to share with her in this ministry. Members of the congregation shared in expressing their gratitude for this service by a standing vote of appreciation at the morning services Sunday. T. B. Amis, chairman of the ordinance committe, announces that Mrs. Ruby Trice and Mrs. Brick Mason are members of the new committee to assume this responsibility (submitted by Cathy Schmidt) |
