Grace Lutheran Church

In 1859 "Newville, Frog Level" was organized by Rev. William Berley. At the end of the Civil War Newville, Colony, and St. Paul's formed a parish which continued until 1872, when Newville became self-sustaining. In 1878 the church changed its name to 'Grace'. A few years earlier Frog Level had become Prosperity. In 1892 Grace formed a parish with Mt. Tabor that continued until 1914, when Grace became a separate parish. The parish building was completed in 1951 and its church building was erected in 1974 (above).

Grace has been host to Synod five times, to the Womens Missionary Society four times, and to the State Luther League twice. P. E. Wise was treasurer of the Synod for thirty years and his successor, A. H. Kohn, held that post for twenty-two years. Other leading layman were Rufus Counts and Kenneth Baker.
