South Carolina Newberry District In the Name of God Amen I Henry Butler of the State & District aforesaid being sick of body but in sound & perfect memory & calling to mind the mortality of my body knowing it is appointed for all men once to die & after death to come judgment I therefore recommend my body to the Earth & my soul to God who gave it & as to my temporal estate which it hath pleased God to bestow on me I give and dispose of as followed viz: First of all my will is that all my just debts & funeral expenses be paid out of my estate. Secondly I give & bequeath unto my loving wife Hannah Butler my poll mare. Also one cow & calf the cow named Motley. Also one feather bed & furniture. Also one pr. of cotton cards & one cotton wheel & one bee hive & two pewter basons & half a dozen pewter plates. Also the crop of corn & fother & potatoes 2 dly I give & bequeath unto my loving son Ely Butler twenty five acres of land whereon I now live with the plantation & orchard & houses & also one horse colt I also give unto James Case one Yearling-- I also give Chesley Butler Stars Yearling. The remainder part of my estate I leave to be equally divided among all my children allowing my wife her third of all my estate besides what I have heretofore given her I also constitute & appoint my loving wife Hannah Butler & George Goggans to be my lawful executrix & executor to act for me & in my behalf after my decease in all things according to law. This being my last will & testament disannulling all other former wills gifts & ratifying & confirming this alone in witness whereof I have set my hand & seal this day of his Henry H. Butler Signed Sealed & delivered I Henry Butler of Newberry & State of South Carolina do this Sixteenth Day of December in the Year of Our Lord 1806 make & publish this Codicil to my Last Will & Testament in manner following. |
