In the name of God Amen. Vis. First my will is that the tract of land which I lately purchased of Levi Pitts sent my negro man named James and my chair and harnefs be immediately sold after my decrease and that out of the money arising therfrom that my just debts and funeral charges be paid if it should prove sufficient, if not so much of the balance of my estate be sold as may be sufficient to pay off all my just debts--- Item: I give to my beloved wife Hannah Pitts all the remainder of my estate both personal and real during her natural life or widowhood except that she is to give to each of my sons when they arrive at the age of twenty one years a horse saddle and bridle worth at least eighty five dollars and provided she marrys I give her an equal share with my children— Item: My will is that at the death or marriage of my wife Hannah Pitts that the whole of my estate be sold and equally divided among my children, to be paid to them and to their use at the age of twenty one years or at the discretion of my executors and I do hereby nominate and appoint my friend John Carwile and my beloved wife Hannah Pitts executor and executrix of this my last will and testament, and I do hereby utterly disallow and revoke all and every former testament will or legacy ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament— In witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this fourteenth day of January in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixteen---- Signed
and sealed published pronounced and declared by the said John Pitts as his
last will and testament in the presence of us who in his presence and in
the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our
names—
