member of the Senior Class SC College he entered the Confederate
Army joining Co. E Capt. Jos E. Brown, Fourteenth Reg't S.C.
Volunteers McGowan's Brigade; Mortally wounded in battle at Gaines'
Mill, 27 June 1862, he gave up his young life thirteen days
afterwards, in the Banner Hospital, Richmond, VA.. This stone marks
the grave of a young Christian Patriot--his most noble and lovely
character, finds a more lasting monument in the memory of all who
knew him.
