Macedonia Evangelical Lutheran Church
Newberry County, South Carolina

StBethMacedonia was founded in 1847 in Lexington County. Rev. George Haltiwanter, Sr., was the first pastor.

The present church building replaced the original one in 1914. It stands near the edge of Lake Murray. When the lake was created in the 1920's , many members moved to other sections, and the church lost almost two-thirds of its membership. Today the church is in Newberry County because the portion of Lexington County lying north of the lake was annexed to Newberry.

Three sons have gone to the ministry through this church: S. C. Ballentine, A. W. Ballentine, and George David Swygert.

The church supports a cemetery which is located near by.
