He volunteered in Company L. raised in the district
under Capt. Williams, for the Mexican War, and on the 13th of
January 1847, he left his home and friends destined to return no
more. He fell prey to a disease in a strange land and an enemy's
country, and died in a Militiary Hospital. His friends made the
utmost exertion to obtain his remains, but without success. He
sleeps at Puebla in Mexico. This monument is here erected to his
memory in the burial place of his Fathers. |
