Gaddy, Rupert Rudolph III died at his home in Newberry, July 17, 2004. He was survived by his parents, Rupert R. Gaddy, Jr. and Mary Elizabeth Cook Gaddy of Fork; wife, Amanda Gaddy of Newberry; two sons, John Rupert Gaddy and James Preston Gaddy of Newberry; two daughters, Sarah Elizabeth Gaddy of Denver, Colo. and Mary Amanda Gaddy of Newberry; one brother, Harold Edward Gaddy of Fork; two sisters, Ms. Elizabeth (Libba) Gaddy Urpa of Simpsonville and Patricia Anne Gaddy Buddin of Rock Hill. Funeral services were held at Kannaday’s Funeral Home Chapel in Dillon with entombment in Greenlawn Cemetery. Galanis, Strategoula E. 90 years old, of Newberry, widow of George Galanis, died Nov. 26, 2004 at Jesse Frank Hawkins Health Care. Mrs. Galanis was born on Feb. 22, 1914 in Vassara, Laconia, Greece, the daughter of the late Konstandino and Eleni Karragianni Economoupoulos. She was survived by a daughter, Litsa Economos of Newberry; two sons, Denis Galanis of Long Island, N.Y. and Kosta Galanis of Manhattan, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Toula Economos Hubbard of Columbia and George Galanis of New York; and a great grandson, Christopher Hubbard of Columbia. Gallman, Alfred Ray "Nab" of Newberry died May 17, 2004 at Providence Hospital. Born in Prosperity, he was the son of the late Bennie Ray Gallman and Mary Cannon Gallman. Mr. Gallman was predeceased by a sister, Azalee Gallman. Surviving were his wife, Delores Ann Mayers Gallman; two daughters, Lakita Denise Gallman and Nikcole Nanette Gallman, both of Little Mountain; one son, Reggie Dewalt of Prosperity; four sisters, Emma Herbert, Bessie Dewalt and Mary Wise, all of Prosperity, and Joann Nelson of Saluda; one brother, Willie Cannon of Philadelphia, Pa.; mother-in law, Bessie Dew; father-in law, Tyrone Mayers. Gallman, Danny Frank 42 years old, of Newberry, died June 17, 2005 at Palmetto Health Richland. Born in Newberry County, he was the son of Frank Gallman and Fannie Tribble Gallman. Surviving were a son, Dexter Maurice Gallman (Teressa) of Newberry; a daughter, Brittany Deondra Gallman of Little Mountain; two brothers, Nathaniel Gallman and wife, Julia of Orlando, Fla. and Murray Shealy of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Wanda Rhinehart and husband, Joe of Saluda; one grandchild; sister-in-law, Mrs. Queenie Gallman of Neward, N.J. Gallman, Maggie L. Long 86 years old, of Newberry, died 8/29/2006 at Heartland of Columbia. Born in Newberry County, she was a daughter of the late Mark Long and the late Ester Long. She was a member of Little River Baptist Church. Surviving were one son, Colie Gallman Jr. (Alberta) of Waterbury, Conn.; two daughters, Lula Mae Brown of Newberry and Minnie Lee Davis (James) of Waterbury, Conn.; and 14 grandchildren, two reared in the home, James Davis and Lee Verne Gallman. Gallman, Mary Nelle W. 79 years old, widow of Doyle L. Gallman, Sr., died July 11, 2005 at Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital. Born in Prosperity, she was a daughter of the late Joe N. and Lillie Mae Dominick Wilson. Surviving were her sons and daughters-in-law, Doyle L. "Sonny" and Brenda Gallman and Billy W. and Cathy Gallman all of Newberry; a sister, Evelyn W. Amick of Prosperity; four wonderful grandsons, Lee and Brittney Gallman, Davis Gallman and Amy Ruff, Andy Gallman and Shanna Jackson and Joey Gallman; a great-grandson, Kaden Gallman; and dear friends, Katie and Buck Connelly.  Burial was St. Philip’s Lutheran Church Cemetery. Born in Prosperity, she was the daughter of the late Furman Banks Counts and the late Georgia Lee Holman. Surviving were her devoted husband, James J. Galloway II of Columbia; a son, Willie D. Galloway of Columbia; two daughters, Cynthia Houseal of Wilmington, Del. and Teresa Clark (Alfunzo) of Beltsville, MD; uncle, Booker Counts of Trenton, N.J.; two aunts, Bennie Ruth Holman Mitchell and Willie Lee Holman, both of Detroit, Mich; devoted cousin, Willie L. Galloway, James ‘Joe’ Ceiphus, 80 years old, formerly of Prosperity, widower of Ethel Mavis (Holman) Galloway, was born Dec. 10, 1935, in Chapin and died Nov. 7, 2006, in Columbia. He was the son of the late Willie Joe Galloway and the late Georgia Lee Counts of Chapin. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps where he earned two Good Conduct medals, a Navy Occupation Medal, a National Defense Medal, a Rifle Marksman Medal and a Pistol Marksman Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1957 as a sergeant after serving his four-year commitment. Joe married Ethel M. Holman on Jan. 12, 1957, and they moved to Wilmington, DE.He was survived by four daughters, Cynthia Houseal of Wilmington, Del., Teresa Clark (Alfonzo) of Beltsville, Md., Donna Johnston (Rodney) of Blacklick, Ohio and Dana Harding (Warren) of Columbia, Ohio; one stepson, Willie D. Galloway of Columbia; seven grandchildren, including Brittany G. Houseal and Richard E. Houseal Jr. (Rjr.) of Wilmington, Del., whom he devotedly helped raise; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Ernest W. Galloway of Linden, N.J., Willie A. Galloway of Chapin, Charles Counts (Jessie Lee) of Rahway, N.J. and Tyler Counts (Doris) of Roselle, N.J.; three sisters, Georgia Alma Pitts of Little Mountain, Sandra R. Gambrell, Austin Wesley 5 weeks old, of Newberry, son of Mark and Becky Ellison Gambrell of Whitmire died July 9, 2006.  In addition to his mother and father, he was survived by paternal grandparents, Thomas W. and Elaine Gambrell of Silverstreet, and Pat and Phil Brickey of Weber City, Va.; maternal grandparents, Charles Ellison and Pat Lanier of Whitmire, and Carol Ellison and Alan Dawley of Whitmire; paternal great grandmother Sadie Gilliam of Whitmire; a half brother, Garrett Wesley Gambrell; a half sister, Cheyenne Gambrell; and special cousins, William and Anna Lominick, Alex and Caylee Ellison; godparents and aunt and uncle, Ray and Susan Ellison and Crystal and Bill Lominick. Gantt, Doyle S. 75 years old, of Newberry died Dec. 30, 2005, at the Palmetto Health Richland. Mr. Gantt was born on Aug. 20, 1930, in Vaiden, Miss., a son of the late Lela Hobson and Aaron L. Gantt. He was an Army veteran of both the Korean War and Vietnam War. He retired from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service with the rank of SFC and received the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (Fifth Medal Clasp), the National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Korea Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and three Overseas Bars. He was retired from the S.C. State guard in 2002. Also, he retired from the Newberry County Detention Center and was currently serving as a bailiff with the Newberry County Courthouse. Mr. Gantt was survived by his wife, Nell West Gantt of Newberry; two daughters and son in-law, Patty and Randy Leopard of Lexington and Debra and James Southerland of Little Mountain; one sister, Nora Lee Devine of McComb, MS; one brother, Tommy Gantt of Lexington, Miss.; and three grandchildren, Erika, Katie, and Nicklas. Garner, C. Furman 85 years old, formerly of Newberry, widower of Fay Berryhill Garner, died Feb. 23, 2005 at Springfield Place. Mr. Garner was born on Nov. 8, 1919 in Stephens County, Ga., a son of the late Jesse T. and Sarah Brown Garner. He was an Army veteran of WW II, having served in Italy and North Africa. Mr. Garner was survived by three sons, Wayne Garner of Cordova, Tenn., Russell Garner of Columbia, and Wendell Garner of Simpsonville; five grandchildren, Jennifer Garner, Clea Garner, Jason Garner, Matthew Garner, and Olivia Garner; and a sister, Earline Merritt of Greenville. He was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Harris, Helen Parham, and Ernestine Roberts. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Greenville. Garner, Evelyn V. 83 years old, of Newberry, widow of Wallace Garner, died March 9, 2006  Mrs. Garner was born in Ninety Six, July 23, 1922, a daughter of the late Douglas Edward Medlock and Margaret Trussel Midget. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors were two daughters, Brenda Henderson and husband and Jessie and Freddie Garner Foster, all of Union; two sons, Wayne Garner and wife, Sue, of Smyrna, Ga. and Ronald “Goober’’ Garner and wife, Sandy, of Buffalo; 14 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Gentry, James R. “J.R.” 38 years old, of St. Albans, formerly of Newberry, S.C., died unexpectedly April 23, 2006.  Born Jan. 10, 1968, in South Charleston, W.V. he was a son of Pauline Gentry and the late Jim Gentry. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Lunette Fite and Mildred Delopaz. Gibbs, Julius Theodore of Hopkins SC, died Jan. 10, 2005 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. Born in Newberry, he was a son of the late William Gibbs and the late Ruby Lucille Miller Gibbs. He served in the U.S. Army in the Dominican Republic and Vietnam and received several meritorious badges and medals, including the PRCHT Badge, the Combat Infantry Badge, the Arms Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service, the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Surviving were his wife, Mamie Thomas Gibbs of Columbia; a daughter, Natara Gibbs of Columbia; three sons, Julius T. Gibbs, Jr. and Shawn Gibbs of Winston Salem, N.C., and Terence Gibbs of Columbia; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Sandra Vincent of Fort Washington, Md. and Betty Gibson (Dorsey) of Clinton, Md.; one brother, William Gibbs (Margie) of Columbia; aunt, Dorothy Little of Newberry; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Gibson, Lunette Kibler died March 1, 2004 at the age of 83. Born August 21, 1920 in Laurens, she was the daughter of the late Furman and Daphne Smith Rowe. She was survived by one sister, Myrtle Cockerall of Pickens; a sister-in-law, Mary Rowe of Prosperity; and two nephews, Keith Harmon of Newberry and Wyman Harmon of Prosperity, who she helped raise. Mrs. Gibson was previously married to the late Harry O. Kibler and the late Robert B. Gibson. She was also predeceased by three brothers and five sisters: Archie Rowe, Oscar (Gene) Rowe, Talmadge Rowe, Juanita McSwain, Mozelle Rowe, Dorothy (Dot) Goodman, Betty Williams and Barbara Lee. Glymph, Cecil Samuel “Sam” 91 year old, a Pomaria farmer and a resident of J. F. Hawkins Health Care Center, died Feb. 15, 2006 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Pomaria April 20, 1914, the son of the late Malcomb E. K. Glymph and Eunice Cochran Glymph. Ineligible for military service, he taught vocational agriculture at Monticello, Pomaria and Little Mountain High Schools during WWII. After the war he administered the Veterans Administration farm recovery program in Fairfield County. Surviving were a sister, Sarah G. Wilcox, Alexandria, Va.; a son, Robert, Columbia; a daughter, Virginia “Ginny” Crouch of Pomaria; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and one great great-granddaughter. He was an U.S. Army veteran. He was survived by two special nieces, Amber and Rebecca Glanville, and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins. Burial was at Newberry Memorial Gardens. Graham, James Louis Jr. Dr. 67 years old, died June 14, 2006. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late James Louis Graham, Sr. and Lottie Evelyn Loadholdt Graham. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Surviving were his wife, Sandy Graham of West Columbia; daughter, Evelyn Graham Pickens and her husband Ley of Perry, Ga.; sons, James Louis “Jim” Graham, III and his wife Tammy of West Columbia and Robert William “Bob” Graham of Mt. Born in Lake City, he was the son of the late Robert Graham and the late Daisy Mae Williams Graham. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Lee Graham; sons, Franklin and Bobby and daughter, Sylvia. Gregory, Bernice "Boo" Ludwick 79 years old, of Newberry, widow of Curtis R. Gregory, died Jan. 6, 2004 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Gregory was born on May 30, 1924, in Cherryville, N.C., a daughter of the late James E. and Mabel Waters Ludwick. Mrs. Gregory was survived by two daughters, Vickie Gregory Carter of Chester and Donna Gregory Quinn of Newberry; a sister, Marcie Crooks of Norfolk, Va.; a brother, Louis L. Ludwick of Summerville; four grandchildren, Rev. Kevin Carter of Greenwood, Neal Carter of Rock Hill, and Alexandra Lopez and Desiree Lopez both of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico; and a special friend, Sharon Ringer. She was predeceased by her son, James. She was survived by her husband of 53 years, William L. Grist Sr. and her sister Mary Bland Pamplin of Alexandria, Va. She was the loving mother of Betsy Miller of Greenville, Nancy and Bill Harvey of Newberry, Lyn and Cynthia Grist of York; and had six grandchildren, Lee Schneider, Kelly Schneider, Marshall Harvey, Sarah Harvey, Buddy Grist and Ben Grist.
