Born in Chapin, Aug. 9, 1941, she was a daughter of the late George Bailey and Louise Summers Slice. She was survived by her husband Bobby of the home; daughter, Donna Haile Keller of Chapin; son, Robby Haile and his wife Dayne of Chapin; grandchildren, Justin, Austin and Joshua Keller, Shawn and Cole Haile and Brittany Barr, all of Chapin; one sister, Margaret Epting and Joe of Chapin; five brothers, Jimmy Slice and Mary Jo of Anderson, the Rev. Surviving in addition to her mother was her husband, Leonard Halfacre; a son, William Lee (Gabi) Halfacre of Prosperity; a daughter, Brande H. (Anthony) Fanara of Prosperity; sisters, Adgie Chappell of Newberry and Ernestine Chaplin of Lexington; a brother, John Felker of California; grandchildren, Christina Fanara, Daulton Halfacre, Daniel Halfacre, Sydney Halfacre, Giada Fanara and Madeline Fanara. Hall, George A. Sr. of Newberry died March 28, 2007 at Mary Black Hospital in Spartanburg. He was the son of the late Johnnie Wesley Hall and the late Roberta Pitts Hall. Hall, Leonard C. 78 years old, of Silverstreet Newberry County SC died 9/17/2007 at his residence. Mr. Hall was born on April 18, 1928, in Edgefield, a son of the late M. Ramey and Effie Scott Hall. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was survived by his wife, Pauline Jones Hall of Silverstreet; daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Randy Crews, Joyce Hall and Lynda Ruff,  all of Newberry; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Donna Hall of Newberry; four grandchildren, Randy C. Crews Jr., Tammy Lynn Pilgrim, William C. Hamiter, Gertrude Shealy 100 years old, widow of Lloyd Hamiter and a resident of the Lowman Home, White Rock, died Sept. 9, 2008. Born Aug. 3, 1908, in White Rock, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Unger Shealy and Maggie Richardson Shealy. On July 27, 1935, she married Lloyd Hamiter. She was survived by a daughter Julie Edwina Hamiter McLeod and son-in-law Walton J. McLeod of Little Mountain; a son, David Lloyd Hamiter of Columbia; and two grandsons, David L. Hamiter, II of Lexington and Walton J. McLeod, IV of Columbia. She was predeceased by her sister, Naomi Shealy Lorick. Interment was in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia. Dunbar Funeral Home. Hamm, Daniel H. Jr., 88 years old, of Newberry, formerly of Prosperity, died Feb. 17, 2008 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Newberry County, a son of the late Daniel H. and Nancy Stockman Hamm. He was survived by a daughter, Susan Davis of Charleston; a son and daughter-in-law, Daniel H. and Martha Shell “Mot” Hamm III of Myrtle Beach; two grandchildren, Shell Hamm Graham and Daniel H. Hamm, Kathryn Summer 87 years old, widow of John William Hamm, died Sept. 14, 2008 at White Oak Manor. Born in Newberry on Nov. 7, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Ella Sligh Summer. Surviving were a son, Frank (Judy) Hamm of Newberry; daughters, Louella (Harmon) Brehmer of Kinards and Johnette (Troy) Bowers and Barbara (Larry) Swygert of Newberry; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hamm was predeceased by a son, William Ralph Hamm and was the last surviving sibling of her family. Burial was in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. Hardin, Bill of Prosperity died Sept. 1, 2009, at Agape Senior Vista in Rock Hill. Born Aug. 31, 1933, in Clifton, Bill was a longtime resident of Spartanburg. Survivors included his wife, Janet Hayes Hardin, of 50 years; his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Charlie Bowers; a beloved grandson and granddaughter, Chuck and Jordan Bowers of Fort Mill; a sister, Virginia Crocker of Spartanburg; two brothers, Dick Hardin of Spartanburg and the Rev. John Hardin of Simpsonville. Bill was the youngest of 13 children and was predeceased by his parents, C. D. Hardin and Lois Perry Hardin, and by six sisters and three brothers. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Services were conducted by his nephew, the Rev. Clyde Hardin, and his nephew by marriage, the Rev. Edgar Foster. Mr. Harmon was a member of W.O.W. 1054, a member of the Pomaria Ruritan Club and the Lower Newberry County Farmers Association. Mrs. Harp was predeceased by her husband, Judge Harp Jr. and a son, Robert Lee Hawkins. Surviving were three daughters, Rev. Dr. Annie M. Harrelson, Ethel May Wright 91, died Aug. 3, 2009, at Agape Senior in Conway.Mrs. Harrelson was born on Feb. 28, 1918, in Spring Hope N.C., the only daughter and youngest child of the late Arthur A. and Bertha Crawford Wright. She married the late James Jason Harrelson on June 9, 1940, in Conway. The marriage lasted 63 years, until his death on July, 17, 2003. They retired to Prosperity, where they enjoyed fishing on Lake Murray and traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada. Her brothers, Granville, Freeman, Philip, Olin, Howald, Arthur, Pembroke, Kenneth, and a great-granddaughter, Chelsea Armstrong, preceded her in death. She was survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Kay and J.W. Peagler of Bonneau, Jay and Ted Scott of Leesville, and Linda and Boyd Gainey of Conway. She leaves two granddaughters, Karen P. Capps and Wanda P. Mayfield, and six grandsons served as pallbearers; David, Tommy, Ron and Jason Scott, Kevin Peagler and William Gainey. Harshman, Charles Gary 58 years old, of Newberry, died June 26, 2008 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Mr. Harshman was born in Middletown, Ohio on January 30, 1950 to the late Charles and Fannie Potts Harshman.  He retired as a US Navy Seal after 30 years of service and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served as a sergeant with the Newberry County Sheriff's Department and was the recipient of the 2007 Corrections Officer of the Year for Newberry County. Born on Sept. 9, 1930 in Stonewall, Miss., Mrs. Hooper was the daughter of the late John Elisha Ingram and Winnie Johnston Ingram. Surviving were a son, Melvin F. Horne, Joseph Henry 68, died Oct. 6, 2009 at Ascension Hospice House. Born on Sept. 4, 1941 in Atlanta, Ga., he was a son of the late Thomas Jefferson Horne Sr. and Eubie Mae White Horne. He was a former member of the S.C. State Guard. Surviving were his wife, Sandra Senn Horne; a son, Joseph J. (Mary Catherine) Horne of Chapin; a daughter, Tracey H. (Harvey) Wise of Newberry; sisters, Becky Goedtke of Stone Mountain, Ga., Gail Samples of Carrollton, Ga. and Frances Hornsby of Loganville, Ga.; brothers, Thomas J. Horne Jr. and Charles Everett Horne both of Doraville, Ga., Curtis Horne of Snellville, Ga. and W.A. Horne of Atlanta, Ga.; grandchildren, Jillian Wise and Mason Wise. Horton, Thomas Bertram Jr. died 2/23/2009 in Newberry County Memorial Hospital, Newberry SC. Mr. Horton was born in Heath Springs in Lancaster County on Dec. 2, 1919, the son of the late Thomas Bertram Horton Sr. and the late Vasti Mackey Horton. He was a veteran of World War II with 40 months of service, having infantry training at Camp Corpus Cristi, Texas and serving in the Adjutant General’s office, attached to headquarters of the 341st Engineers involved in the building of the Alcon Highway from Dawson Creek, British Columbia to Fairbanks, Alaska. This was a supply line to offset the threat of a Japanese Invasion through the Aleutian Islands and Alaska. His extensive work career was outlined in the obituary. He was survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy (Dot) Truesdale Horton, whom he married Aug. 24, 1975. He was predeceased by his son, Steven Catherwood Horton. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Beverly Truesdale Meng, his step-son, James Edward Truesdale Jr., his daughter-in-law, Sharron Knight Horton; and his two beloved grandchildren, Bernard Boyd Meng IV and Rebecca (Becky) Horton Craven, her husband, Chase Craven and to his great delight and joy, two great-grandchildren, Harrison Chase Craven and Hollis Catherwood Craven. He was predeceased by his first wife, Winifred Dent Horton, and his sister, Mary Emma Horton Cannon. He is also survived by his nephews, Rev. Barry Cannon and Keith Cannon and his niece, Joan Smith. Howard, John age 74, of Newberry died March 21, 2009 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. Born in Alculu, he was the son of the late Roosevelt McFadden and the late Etta Howard Bellamy. He was a Korean War veteran. Surviving were his wife, Marie Reeder Howard of the home; two daughters, Constance H. McMorris (Keith) of Newberry and Valerie H. Hudson, Jewel 61, an administrative assistant for Northrup Grumman in Melbourne, Fla., passed away Feb. 9, 2009. Jewel was born in Newberry. She came to Brevard County in 1989 from Burlington, N.C. Jewel was survived by her husband, Eugene; daughters, Dene McGee, Jeanette Bender and Kristin Newell; grandchildren, Bryan, Joshua, Austin, Corey, Clara and Ryan; father, Derrell Stribble; and a brother, Kent. Hunter, Fannie Mae Mrs. 92 years old, of Whitmire died Feb. 27, 2008 at the Wallace Thomson Hospital in Union. She was born in Newberry County on May 11, 1915 to the late Clarence Eison and Janie Austin. Mrs. Hunter was preceded by her husband, James “Man” Hunter; a daughter, Janie H. Hutto, Clarence C. “Bubber” died Nov. 17, 2007, with Parkinson's Disease. He was born Nov. 20, 1936, in Newberry, the son of Clarence Claude Hutto and Sarah Hipp Hutto. He entered the Citadel at age 16 years, class of 1957. During that time, he was awarded Distinguished Military Student, Cadet Captain and Company Commander and was a member of the Summerall Guards Drill team. Immediately following The Citadel, he served in the United States Army as a First Lieutenant and later as a Captain in the Army Reserves. He was survived by his wife of 50 years, Joanne Halfacre Hutto, his son Clarence Claude “Bubber” Hutto III and his wife, Cindy Bankhead Hutto of Folly Beach; a daughter, Sarah Jo Hutto Funkhouser and husband, Mark Edward Funkhouser of Charlotte, N.C.; and a sister, Mary Lee Hutto Darby and husband, Louis G. Darby of Mariett, Ga. He was also blessed with three wonderful grandchildren, Laura Ellen Hutto of Mount Pleasant and Joanne Kathleen Funkhouser and Luke Edward Funkhouser of Charlotte, NC.
