St. Matthew's Lutheran Church

St.St. Matthew's Lutheran Church was organized as "Heller's Church" in 1827 and was located on Broad River ten miles northwest of Pomaria. It's founder was the Rev. J. D. Scheck. The church was destroyed by a tornado in 1844 and rebuilt two years later.

This church was in the Bethlehem Parish with Bethlehem and Pomaria, becoming self-supporting in 1969.

It has given two sons to the ministry: Thomas F. Suber and E. A. Felker.

St. Matthew's supports an active cemetery.
